Spotify not playing on individual Nest speakers

Groone
Community Member

Hello, I'm having an issue with my Nest speakers and I hope someone can assist me.

This recently started happening.  In the past I was able to go to, for example, my kitchen and tell google to play a song on spotify and it would play that song in the kitchen, then I could move to another room and tell that unit to play a different song and it would comply, and so on.  I could have all my nest speakers in the house playing different music from my spotify account.  About 3 or 4 days ago all this stopped working.  When I now ask google to play a song it just arbitrarily picks a speaker and starts playing or some times it will give me the "Playing such and such song from spotify" and nothing will be played until I say "Hey google, play music in kitchen" at which time the song that I requested would be playing in the kitchen but if my wife goes to her sewing room and asks to play a song nothing will play and when she says "play music in sewing room," the kitchen speaker stops and the song I was listening to plays in her sewing room.  It's like I can only have one speaker at a time playing music or reading a book.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks for your help.

Hi Groone,

Thanks for reaching out and for providing detailed information on your issue — these are of great help!

If you only have one music service linked to your Google Home app, it will only allow you to play one music at a time. You can add users to your Google Home app and have them link their own music service credentials so they can play music separately. Check the steps below on how to add a home member.

Invite members to a home:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. Switch to the home you want to share.
  3. At the top, tap Add Add and then Invite home member and then Invite person.
    • If you don't find "Invite home member," tap Add person to home.
  4. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to invite to your home and then tap Next.
  5. Review what’s shared when you add someone to your home and then tap Next.
  6. Review the person’s access to your home and then tap Send.
  7. If your Google Family Group isn’t full and the person you’re inviting isn’t already in one, you should get the option to invite them to your Google Family Group.
    • To invite them, tap Add to Family.
    • To skip this step, tap No Thanks.
    • Note: You can have up to 6 members in a Google Family Group.

The person you invite should receive an email with instructions.

Note: If the person you want to invite has already requested to join your home, you need to accept that request instead of sending a new invitation.

Check this link for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni
