Sudden language change

Jaimy
Community Member

Hi,

I am Dutch but my Nest Hub 2 suddenly thinks I am French, the text on the device is partly French, part Dutch.

I can still talk to the device without a problem, but navigating it in times I can’t talk (at night for instance when I want to set an alarm) it’s pretty hard. I can’t find anything about changing text language. So this is my last hope.

Hi Jaimy,

Thanks for posting in this community.

I understand that your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) unexpectedly switched its display language to a mix of French and Dutch, which is making it difficult to use, especially when you can't use voice commands to set alarms at night. I can also see that you couldn't find a way to change the text language and I appreciate your confidence in us to help you with this. Don't worry, you are in the right place to assist you.

Before we start further troubleshooting, I have a few questions for you:

  • Do you have the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, you can find helpful instructions in this Google Nest Help Center article: Update the Google Home app.
  • Is your mobile device updated?
  • Can you double-check if you're signed in to the Google Home app with the same Google account that your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) is linked to?  Here is a Google Help Center article for your reference: Check which Google Account is linked to a speaker or display.

In the meantime, I recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps to set your Google Assistant's responses to Dutch:

  1. Perform a factory reset on your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen):
    • On the back of the device, press and hold both volume buttons together for about 10 seconds. Your Nest Hub will let you know it's resetting.
  2. Set up your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) again. Here is a helpful Google Nest Help Center article to learn more: Set up your Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
  3. When you set it up, make sure the smartphone you're using is in the language you'd like your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) to be in.
    • Go to your smartphone's settings.
    • Update the language setting on your smartphone to match the desired Google Assistant language.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna
