The assistant no longer wants to understand French

Hello,

My Nest Hub 2 still reacts to Hey Google or OK Google (the 4 colored dots move), but then it no longer transcribes what Isay, and it no longer processes my requests (the dots move, but no text appears).

At least, when I speak to him in French... because I discovered after trying hard that he wants to speak to me in English or in Spanish! But as soon as I put French back as the default language, it doesn't want to work again.

Tried to reset dozens of times, nothing changed...

Any ideas ?

Hi,

I did other tests with:

  • A brand new Google account
  • A different phone
  • HOME app installed for the first time
  • Different Wi-Fi network

No change. The assistant works fine on the phone, in French, but not on the Nest Hub (none of the Swiss/Canada/Belgium/France French language packs). Only works with other languages.

Can the language pack be corrupted on the Nest Hub? Can we force an update?

We appreciate you doing those steps. Let’s further look into it. Try to set English as the main language, and French as a secondary language.
 

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Manage all Assistant settings.
  • Tap Languages > Choose languages for speaking to your Assistant > Add a language
  • Unplug your Google Nest Hub 2nd gen from the power outlet for a minute > Plug back in > Test command.

Hello, thank you for your answer.

I have already done these tests, but I started again in doubt.

With English (USA) as the main language and French (France) as the secondary.
The Hub interface switches to English. When I ask him a question in French, he transcribes my question into French text for a brief moment. Then he transforms it into English by taking phonetically similar words but with a completely different meaning and he answers me in English to this false question.

If I speak to him in English only, everything works fine.
On the phone the assistant answers me correctly in French or in English without any problem either.

The reverse setting French main and English secondary doesn't work at all, same as French main only.

Thanks for trying the steps. Can you record a short video showing this behavior and share the file link here? Also, kindly get the Cast firmware and Fuchsia/software version of your Google Nest Hub 2nd gen: swipe up from the bottom of your display > Settings > Device information.

Video test 1 English main / French secondary:
I ask him in French "quelle est la météo aujourd'hui ?" (What's the weather today?) and he tells me about the number of kilometers to go to Oradea in Romania... but he answers a question correctly in English.

 

Video test 2 French main only:
Normal reaction to "OK Google". I ask him in French "quelle est la météo aujourd'hui" but nothing happens. You can see he hears me but he does nothing.
