The selected device does not support casting from this application

I purchased two new nest audio speakers. I just tried setting them up and each works well separately, but when I pair them together and try casting from the same apps that worked (BBC, Spotify, SoundCloud) a toast message pops up on my phone "The selected device does not support casting from this application" as well as assistant saying "Sorry, something went wrong. When you're ready give it another try." 

I have rebooted and factory reset both speakers as well as pair and unpairing and moving in and out of rooms and my home groups... I even downloaded an older google home APK and tried setting up on that, nothing has worked so far and I haven't had luck finding a fix online. Please help!
