Two Google Mini DEad

jediscuba

I have Google Mins throughout my home to control lights, shades, thermostats and more. I have grown to rely on these little guys.

Last week two of them decided to give up the ghost.

1 - constantly loses wifi connection. I will reset it and it works for  a day and then drops out again.

I've swapped to to different locations but the problem persists. This unit is a BRICK

2 - The second unit did something similar but when I tried to reset it it will only show a green led on the left of the bar and never progress. Another BRICK.

These little buggers don't even have serial numbers so where do I go from here?

Hi @jediscuba!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve experienced with your 2 Nest Mini. I understand that each of them has different symptoms. The first one is constantly disconnecting from the network, you reset it, and then it works for one day before showing the same behavior again. The other device was having the same network issue, but when trying to factory reset the device it would only show a green LED light and wouldn’t finish the reset. No worries, help is here.

I need some extra information to better assist you. Here are some questions for you:

  • How long did the device work before the connectivity issue started?
  • How was the connectivity issue discovered? Did you get any audible messages from the devices?
  • What is the firmware version of the affected speakers?
  • Did you change your WiFi setup recently?

In the meantime, I will suggest you to follow the next steps with the device that is not resetting:

  • Perform a factory reset on the device.
  • On the side of the device, unplug the power cord for 10 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and wait until the 4 LEDs light up.
  • Repeat the same process 10 more times.
  • On the last attempt, leave the power cord plugged in.
  • Wait until it announces “Welcome to Google Home.”. Then you can set up the device back to the account.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.

Daniel,

Thanks for taking the time to respond in detail.

I've already done everything you suggested, multiple times.

Google does constant updates and my unit is an older series one.

It is not capable of taking the update and working.

It's sort of like taking a computer designed for Windows 3.1 and trying to get it to function

on the latest platform. It just can not happen.

My unit will no only go to 3 lights, it never goes to the 4th.

Google know they fried my unit and refuse to admit it.

I've thrown out my brick
