I bought a Nest camera (2nd gen, wired) and Nest Hub (2nd gen) to use as a baby monitor system. I saw somewhere that the live stream from the camera should last 12hrs, however the live stream seems to timeout sooner than that. Obviously for a night of monitoring a sleeping baby this is not ideal. Is there a way to maintain the live stream for a longer duration or even better, indefinitely? Seems I should be able to use these devices as I want and not have to abide by some arbitrary rules set by Google. Any help is appreciated.

Hi TO5,
Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community.
A few questions: do you have a Nest Aware subscription? How long does Google Nest Hub2nd gen streams the camera? What is the exact behavior when it times out (goes back to the home view, or do you see any message)?
Regards,
Alex

Hi Alex_S
I do not have a Best Aware subscription.
The stream lasts for around 4 hours. I don't know exactly because it times out while I'm sleeping. The Nest Hub just goes back to the home screen which is a picture slideshow.

Hi there,
Thanks for the information. This behavior you are experiencing is how it is supposed to work if we don’t have a Nest Aware subscription — we can only stream the Nest Camera on Google Nest Hub for a maximum of 4 hrs. You need to have a Nest Aware subscription for continuous 24/7 video recording, and event video recording.
It would be best to go to the Google Store for further discussion about the different subscriptions we have that may cover your needs.
Thanks,
Alex

I am having these exact problems with a Nest Aware account, 2nd Gen Nest Hub, and wired indoor Nest camera. Except the Hub screen seems to go black randomly while displaying “live” in the top left corner, or will go back to the default clock setting by the time I wake up. I know it isn’t Wi-Fi related because I have forgotten to stop streaming the other Nest Hub we have in the house before bed, and it stays on throughout the night.

Hi kykycav,
Thanks for posting — let’s further isolate this. What are the troubleshooting steps you’ve done? How far is your Google Nest Hub 2nd gen from the router?

Alex

We connected with Google support over the phone and got it resolved for now - a factory reset on the camera itself was necessary.

Hey kykycav,
Sweet! Happy to hear that factory resetting the device resolved the issue and thanks for keeping us in the loop. Let me know if you still have questions and concerns otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.
Cheers,

I bought a Nest Camera (2nd gen, wired) and a Nest Hub (2nd gen) to use as a baby monitoring system. I had read that the live stream of the camera on the hub shouldn't timeout for 12 hours but I guess that's for 1st gen devices and 2nd gen timeout after 4 hours. My workaround was to set up automations to stream the live feed from the camera to the hub at 3 or 4 hour intervals. I set the trigger to be at a specific time such as 9pm and the action was custom and set as "Show [Camera Name] on [Hub name]. This gives me an error saying "Sorry, it looks like [Camera Name] camera doesn't support streaming to remote screens". The hub and camera are on the same network and in the same home in the app. If I ask the hub to show me the camera, this works. Is there something I'm missing or is there a bug or something? It seems like this should be a pretty straightforward automation. Any help is appreciated!

Hi TO5,
It seems like a main thread has already been created about this concern, so I'll merge your post into it. You can follow the main thread for updates and suggested troubleshooting steps. Please note that once merged, this original thread will be locked.
