Verbal reminders not playing on a Hub Display device (Google Home Nest)

I use recurring reminders on my Hub Display device.

Some reminders I set a year or more ago play as expected, as in "Gilly, it is time for bed"

Newer reminders I've set up play a chime and say "you have a reminder" -- so I have to make a trip to the kitchen to see what it is (it displays the text on the screen, but does not play it/verbally read it).

Can anyone help me set recurring reminders that play a message (such as "Gilly, time for bed" or "pick up kids") rather than just a chime/display?

Thanks!  This is a maddening issue to try to resolve for a simple function that used to work!

Secondly, is there a central (well-designed) web interface where I can control these settings?  Must I juggle control between the device itself and my phone "home app"?

I thought I'd deepen the mystery.  It turns out I can see my reminders on Google Assistant on my phone (not a revelation for gurus on this forum, I'm sure).  However, NONE of these reminders play verbally (they are all chime/display).  The reminders that DO play verbally on my Home Hub display are NOT listed here.  I don't know where they are.  Could I have another account linked with different settings (somehow)?

Just to clarify the conundrum: from Google Assistant > Manage Settings > Accounts, I do have another account listed.  However, this account is not enabled, nor (when I switch to that account) does it contain the missing Reminders.

Hi timwebster,

Thanks for reaching out and for providing detailed information on your inquiry  — these are of great help

There is a possibility that you are using the Family Bell for your announcement. Check the steps below on how to create another one.

To create a Family Bell on a Speaker or Smart Display:

  1. Say “Hey Google, create a Family Bell.”
  2. Follow the conversation with Assistant to provide more details.

For example, try saying, “Hey Google, create a Family Bell called Breakfast at 10 AM on Monday through Friday.”

Tip: When you create a Family Bell, you can customize the announcement with specific information your family appreciates.

  • “It’s time for breakfast.”
  • “It’s recess. Time to have some fun.”
  • “Time for bed. Remember, sleeping is a time machine to breakfast."

Check this link for more information.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Juni
