Where can I get the Home App?

VinB1

Hi:

I am experiencing a problem with connecting a Google home speaker to a new router's WiFi network.  From what I have read, a "Home App" software is needed to fix this situation, but I do not know how to obtain the Home App.

I cannot recall how the Home speaker was first setup with the old router network.

Will the required Home App run on a Windows10 desktop PC?

I need to locate and download the Home App software and make it run on one of the devices that I presently have available to me:

  1. Windows10 PC (old) (preferred because it has adequate memory available to run the Home App software)
  2. Apple iPad (old)
  3. Chromebook (old)

I don't think the initial setup was done by use of a cellphone; the cellphone that I have now is very low in available memory.

I will be grateful for your guidance in helping me to download the GOOGLE Home App software so that I may connect the Home speaker to the new router's network.

Hi @VinB1

First welcome to the Google Nest community!

The Google Home App is available for Android and iOS. So it is not going to work on your Windows 10 device.

I think your best bet is using your iPad. Check out THIS link for the Google Home App which can be found in the app store.

Do you have a smartphone? If so it is probably running iOS or Android. If you have a Android device you can find the Home app in the Playstore. ☺️

TNX RXShorty.

I just tried my Android Rebel 4, and the play store replied that it will not run on my device.

I will try with my iPad, which is also rather ancient.

@RXShorty

Well, I was not able to install from the Apple Store with my iPad.  I was told that I would need iOS 14.0 or greater.  My iPad is so old that it is not being updated any longer .... It has iOS 12.5.6, and I am told that my software is up to date ....  🙄

I'll ask this question:

If I could get someone to install the Google Home App on their iPhone12, would we then be able to configure the Home speaker for me? I assume that they would need to first connect to my WiFi FiOS router, using the new router's name and its password, to do that.

Hi folks,

@RXShorty, thanks for the help.

@VinB1, I do hope you've found the answers you're looking for. In addition, click on the link to see the process and the requirements needed for a successful set up. It would help a lot if you could try a different, up-to-date mobile device so that you can install the Home app and proceed with the setup.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Hi again:

Here is an update on the problem of connecting our Google Home speaker to a new router network:

Thankfully, my grandson and his iPhone were able to make use of the Google Home app to reconnect our Home speaker to the new FiOS router network.

We are grateful for all replies received.

I hereby mark this issue resolved.

TNX again.
