Whirlpool Washer and Dryer Voice Notifications stopped working

MrMont

For several months now, the Google Voice notification of cycle completion stopped working for my Whirlpool Washer and Dryer. After working well for several years, It stopped working summer of 2024 and would intermittently work again for a day or two. I tried all solutions from factory resetting all my google and whirlpool devices. Relinking Whirlpool devices, creating a new whirlpool and google account, making sure that voice notification was enabled for each Whirlpool device, and finally that each speaker notifications were also enabled. I could not get it to work.

However I found a workaround solution. Create a Routine within Google Home app to notify you.

1. Within the Google Home app, Go to Automation (button near middle bottom).

2. Tap Add, then Household.

3. Name your routine to something like Dryer Complete or Washer Complete.

4. Starter: Add starter, (Choose: When a device does something), Find and select either your washer or dryer, (Choose Starts or Stops). select "stops", then finally tap "add starter" at the bottom.

5. Actions: tap add action, (choose: communicate and announce), check box (make an announcement), Type what you want your announcement to say [example: the washer is complete], tap play-on,  choose custom devices and select which speakers you want the announcement (if you multiple speakers). tap done, then done again

6. Save your routine and test it out.

It's not perfect, and I sometimes get false notifications when someone turns on then off the washer/dryer. However, its better than nothing. My family has come to depend on these notifications as our washer/dryer are in the basement and we can't hear when the cycle is done. It used to work great, but something happened that stopped the default voice notifications. So far this workaround has worked for me.

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that voice notifications have stopped working on your Whirlpool washer and dryer. Let's work together to find a solution.

I appreciate the time you spent and the detailed workaround you provided to resolve the voice notification. Your feedback and suggestions on how we can improve the Google Home App in future updates would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I encourage you to share this workaround with the Whirlpool community so they can also benefit from it.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
