Why is there no way to turn off Google Assistant responses?

Why is there still no option to turn off the very annoying responses when you ask Google, for example, to "turn off garage light"?

I understand that if you have EVERY light in the same "room" this avoids this issue, but this then defeats the point of having different rooms.

When I go to bed and forget I've left the garage light on I do not want my Nest Mini to respond with "OK! Turning off the garage light!" at 2AM. Why can it not be an option to just have the chime sound for these actions. I don't want to have to use "night mode" either as I work varied shifts and my night isn't always the same time.

I've tried creating routines to overwrite the command and not get a response but if you choose the same trigger "turn off the garage light" you still get the same annoying response.

Looking online people have been asking for this feature since at least 2018. Please just give us the option!!

Hi, the feature of "brief" answers is still not available in Italy. Do you know when will it be available world-wide? Thanks

Thanks for your reply but these suggestions do not work and I don't want to pay for IFTTT.

Can someone from Google perhaps respond with a reason for not implementing this small improvement/fix?

Does anyone really want the assistant to repeat commands in any situation?

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about the frustrations that you're having with the Google Assistant, I'm happy to help.

I would suggest visiting our Google Assistant Forum and writing to them there as this is a question that they would be able to help answer.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I’ve just picked up a google NHM, I’ve got two lights which are in different rooms, they’ll play the chime noise. The other four in a different room, will get the annoying response from the NHM. Just doesn’t make sense why, some lights will play that chime and others don’t 🤷‍♂️

It's a feature that has been requested, but the reality is currently if you ask Google to turn a light off from an assistant located in a different room than the lights, it will respond , if you ask from the same room it chimes.  As the system gets done tuned and tweaked over time I am sure it will change.  Best bet is to send feedback through the Google home so the engineers see it and know people want it.

Well, in addition to your reply. I ran the NHM some tests. Moving it into various groups, reset the links between the devices to set up again from the start and unfortunately this didn’t change anything except only one light chimes and the rest don’t. Also, the light that does chime is in a different room\group to the device. Explain that one to me. Personally the fix here is adding the functionality within the app to turn off the announcements after a device is switched on or off.

Thanks for your reply, Jake.

Unfortunately seems that there is not any official way to turn off full Google assistant responses on home/mini speakers neither to activate brief answers worldwide or in languages different from English. I'm writing from Italy.

I sent a feedback almost 1 year ago from the app but nothing changes.

Hi there, is there any update on this?

Yes I would love an official response on this. It seems utterly crazy to me that there still isn’t an official fix to this issue! Why do I have to have the Nest yelling at me in the middle of the night when I ask it to do something elsewhere in the house! Seems like this should never have been an issue in the first place and it’s particularly negligent that after all this time there still isn’t a fix.

This seems like a simple thing to do. It is already available on Alexa. Just add an option to mute the Nest Mini so that it just has a beep or a bell instead of that annoying voice response. I am ready to toss my Minis out and convert to Alexa just so I don't have to hear that god awful response when I turn off the lights at 1am.

Is there any update on whether Google will be changing this in the future? For such a forward thinking technology having it bark your instructions back at you every time you ask something is incredibly annoying. Especially, as others have pointed out, at night time.

I wanted truly to switch from using Alexa for my smart home because half the tike she's deaf. But Google Assistant thinks that I am an idiot repeating my own commands back to me as if I wasn't sure of what I had asked it to do. Alexa has the option to turn off the voice and switch on a gentle "ding" as confirmation for completing a task. Google, what is taking you so long (4+ years now) to add this option. Unacceptable. Switching back to Alexa.
