I don’t mean the physical Google Nest, I mean the Google Home app; whenever I try to click “Works with Google” when adding a device, it says “Something went wrong - Try again”. I have deleted the app and reinstalled it multiple times. I have deleted all my homes and tried from scratch. I have tried on multiple iOS devices. I have tried on multiple Google accounts. I am convinced this is an iOS bug; I have never had this issue before, the reason I ran into this was because I wasn’t able to control the color of my lights from my speakers anymore. I tried removing the lights and adding them back but no such luck. I’ve tried everything, but I’m open to suggestions.

If your Google Assistant keeps telling you that something went wrong, a soft reset of the device will usually fix the problem. If the error persists, however, you'll want to try one of the other solutions above. Remember, a factory reset should be the last resort when troubleshooting the error.

No; again, the Google Assistant is not telling me something went wrong, the Google Home app is.

Hi drwhorx,
This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: which Nest speakers and smart lights are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? What app are your smart lights linked to before linking it to your Google Home app?
It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:
To isolate further, set up one of your Nest speakers and one of your smart lights to an Android phone and tell me how it goes.
Thanks for the help, petergroft.
Best,
Dan

I'm having the same issue. I also tried removing my device that won't connect and reading it via "works with Google" link but I end up on the same page you mentioned. Only option is retry or cancel and retry never completes

I'm not sure why this was moved but I was able to get my devices working again. I had to switch my home account to my Google Workspace account (the main one I use on my phone but not usable as part of YouTube Premium Family membership). I just have tried to switch the account so that searches would open YouTube music under the correct account. I have no idea why using my @Gmail.com account would result in issues opening setting for assistant. Btw because you can't get any account switches in assistant with the error, you need to make the change in the Home app.

Hi folks,
@drwhorx, thanks for sharing the information with us.
@MKirby, before asking these questions, please refrain from sending any important and sensitive information here, for your security. Are you still using your Google account? Does it have a Gmail domain?
Go ahead and check it out:
Let us isolate whether the account you’re using is a Google Workspace account or the required Google Account.

Dan

Unfortunately I had to select my Google Workspace account with my own custom domain. My Gmail account does not allow me to access Google assistant for some reason. Again my phone uses the workspace account as it's main account but my Gmail account is generally what I use for home content and my YouTube premium. I would prefer to use this for my assistant but not if it means reconfiguring my whole device

Hi MKirby,
I hear you and understand that having a personalized Google Workspace account can be very useful, security wise, however, it may or may not work due to certain restrictions and compatibility concerns. If you can, please try to use one of your Google Home and set it up on a Google Account directly to see the difference. It would really help us a lot with isolating the concern.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,
Dan

Hi, Dan; thanks for the reply! This issue began about a week and a half ago. I’m using two Google Homes (not sure what model, but they’re pre-Nest era) and four Genie lights. I have the lights connected to the Smart Life service, which used to show up under “Works with Google”. I don’t believe this is a hardware issue, however, since the “Works with Google” tab isn’t even working and I’ve had no issues with this setup in the months I’ve had it. “Works with Google” won’t load when I’m on any of multiple wifi networks I’ve tried and even cellular; I believe the app is having issues.

I'm not sure why this was moved here. The issue we are all having is with the Google Home "APP" and Google assistant. I don't even have an appliance. I have some speakers and a Samsung TV that usually works with Google. assistant and Google Home app to perform various functions. The advice to follow is not possible and so I haven't responded that I've taken the steps suggested because I can't. Others have also chimed in that they have the same issue and it is with the app but not the Nest.
Go ahead and close this because you don't have a clue and wouldn't be able to help us.
I guess it is time to decouple myself from Alphabet. It'll be painful but I'm not feeling the love.

drwhorx, are you still having the error "something went wrong" on your Google Home app? Are there changes on your Google account? Also, try the steps below:
Looking forward to your response.
