Wrong weather location

Brysonkoehler
Community Member

Google keeps closing this topic without ensuring it's actually solved, so I'm reposting the problem from someone else a few weeks ago that describes my problem, however the uninstall/reinstall "solution" doesn't work for me.

Just recently ( a week or so) my Google Home (1st Gen and 2 minis) devices have been giving me the weather location of the wrong location.

Some background, I have 3 locations in my google home App.

Location A
Location B
Location C

A is a vacation home.  B is primary residence.  C is my parents' house.  The issue is all the devices are now giving the weather based on Location A, no matter where the devices is assigned in the App.  If I ask the device what's the address, it gives the proper address for where I have set the location.  I even attempted creating a new location that would show up alphabetically before Location A just incase a programmer made a stupid mistake, moved my device to that location and it still gives the weather for location A.

If I change the address for Location A to be the address of Location B, then the devices in Location B provide me with the correct weather.  However this will break the weather on Location A.

Princess,

Tried this previously with no change in afraid.

For the past few weeks (approximately 4 location changes) my partners location for weather and distance ( ie how far is xxxx) are using an old location. Interestingly the Google Hub Max will respond with the correct address when asking ‘where is my home’., which is both in her profile and on the device.

checked her location in maps and see her correct location on my map with location sharing on.

It seems something other than her profile settings are being used for the weather and some location based requests.

I have checked all Google services on her iPhone have location services always enabled.

Hi everyone,

@Delboy, thanks for the update.

Has anyone tried to reset the Google Nest speaker and connect it to a different router? I'd like to check to further isolate if this has something to do with the router's settings and location set on it.

If you don't have any network to connect to, let's try to connect it using mobile hotspot.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Princess

My issue has occurred since moving and the router was brand new and never used at the old location.

Thanks!

Hi nun_ya,

Have you tried the steps discussed on the previous thread? Let's go ahead and try that to see if there are any changes.

Keep me posted.

Further testing and I can confirm that whilst Google Home Max has recorded my correct address and responds correctly to ‘where is my home’ it reports the incorrect location for weather and routing to my home from my location.

At home connected to same wifi as the hub max, correctly reports home address but incorrectly reports weather and distance to home. iPhone connected on same wifi network using Google Hone or assistant app reports correct home address, weather and distance to home.

seems google hub believes I am physically in an old location and not actually a problem with my home address??

I should add that all of my Google hubs have the correct device address recorded.

Tried using a hotspot directly with the same result. My partner’s location is reporting her correct address in  the iOS app but weather still reports an old location.

as noted previously Google maps, the Google Nest, both our Google accounts Home address have all been updated several times in all the Google apps/services we use.

  • Hi In Home app go to “Settings” - “General”  - “Privacy”  - SELECT. “Remove saved wifi and home address”,

you’ll get warnings etc but proceed, then check address again in “Home” app, make sure correct or add it.
Then test on nest or speaker, worked for me , correct location on all speakers for Weather again.  Hope it sticks.

Hi, my partner is having this issue. When I ask “google where  am I” I get the correct location, but when he asks it tells us the name of a place 3 hours away. We’ve never had anything setup with that location, nor have we ever lived there.

Google. What would be helpful is if you could take a moment to publish the official steps to resolve this issue. There are a lot of community ideas here but not official idea.

Instead of just trying to close the topic to meet some internal KPI, please take a moment and guide those having the issue on how to resolve.

Thank you!
