YouTube Music got quiet and is softer than Spotify by 10 decibels

MarkM2

I have a YouTube Premium subscription (includes YouTube Music). I've noticed awhile back on my Nest Hubs 2nd Gens that YouTube Music got significantly quieter. At volume 100, it is just average volume. When I play music from Spotify (I have no paid subscription plan) it is significantly louder. I actually used a decibel meter and from about 6 feet away YouTube Music was on average 10 decibels lower than Spotify. I tried this with different songs from both Music apps and the results were consistently the same.

On a side note, my wired Google 2nd Gen doorbell got significantly quieter than before, too. I use my Nest Hubs 2nd Gen as the doorbell chime.

Am I really the only person in the world with this issue? I am so frustrated. Of course, level 1 Google help has so far proven to not be helpful. Am I just one number out of millions and so insignificant that I'll be disregarded again as too obscure of a problem for them to deal with?

Hello MarkM2,

Thanks for reaching out to the Speakers and Displays Community forum.

Our team investigated this and found out that this may have something to do with the adjustments made by the music providers. For now, we'd appreciate it if you could send feedback to our product team. You may also check this thread for more information.

In addition, the visitor announcement for the Nest Doorbell should be on the same volume as with your Google Nest displays. You can maximize the volume of the devices and check if there's any improvements.

You are correct. The Nest Doorbell is on the same volume as my Google Nest displays. That is not good as the Doorbell needs to have its own volume, like the timers and alarms. Doorbell needs to be louder than the set volume. I keep my Nest displays on volume 3 typically which is way too soft for the Nest doorbell. Even the guy at Google customer service over the phone admitted my doorbell chime at full volume was too low. And especially since they lowered the volume on the doorbell and YouTube Music a few months ago, this is unacceptable and Google customer service is ignoring my request to speak to someone higher up in technical so we can figure out this problem. They have lied to me and said someone would call me and nobody ever does. I have repeated needed expert and experienced help, like Ring doorbell has when I had them. I used to think good of Google. Now, I am so upset and bitter at Google. All this time and money I pumped into their products and I get no help.

And all I get with Google Nest is that it's YouTube Music issue and Doorbell issue, I'll transfer you. And then I work with YouTube Music and also Doorbell and then they say it's Nest's issue and they transfer me back. It's been going back and forth, back and forth. Finally they give up with generic attempts to troubleshoot, and to get me off the phone they say somebody higher up will call me. And then of course nobody calls. And when I check on that, they stop communicating with me. You could imagine the anger and frustration I am going thru after I spent all time and money with this whole Google system in my home.

Hi MarkM2,

This certainly hasn't been easy for you. I've already flagged your issue to our team. There was an update over-the-air for the Google Nest Hub Max, so check if that resolved your issue. If not, please share your display's cast firmware and Fuchsia version. Here's how: swipe up from the bottom of the device > Choose Settings > Device information > Technical information > Look for Cast firmware and the Fuchsia version.

Thanks,
Lovely

I don't have a Max. Just the regular Google Nest Hubs. I just checked again and YouTube Music is still about 10db lower in volume. Spotify and WDCB radio (which I stream) are both as loud as each other but still, YouTube Music is significantly lower volume by 10 decibels.

Chromecast firmware version 1.56.324896

There is nothing showing Fuchsia but there is a software version and that version shows 47.9.4.447810048

Hey MarkM2,

Chiming in, we appreciate your efforts. Could you share the case ID so we can check what happened to the case?

Cheers,

I am not aware of a case number on this. All I know is that nobody on the phone can figure out my issue and nobody wants to have a technical expert contact me. They said someone higher up with more technical background would call and then they send an email saying that they won't be calling me. I felt like it was a way of just getting me off the phone and essentially saying that no one is going to be willing to help me out. I am just a number. If there's a way to get a case going on this where an actual tech person with experience can call me, then let me know how to start that again. But at this point, no more people reading from scripts please. I need an actual experienced tech person to help resolve this issue.

And so here we are again. Nobody knows how to help me so I get ignored. Welcome to just being a small number to a gigantic corporation. I only count if a bunch of other numbers have the same problem. And either Google doesn't have any real technical people who know anything or they just choose not to have someone who actually knows how to solve my issue spend any time helping me. Jerks.

I am having this same issue. YouTube Music is significantly lower volume than other music apps even at 100 percent. I have 4 Neat Audio speakers and a Nest Hub Gen2. Should I start a new thread?
