Sync Devices - Pixel 6 not available

Bitz09
Community Member

When I try to sync my devices, I get the message Pixel 6 is not available.  This even happens when I run the sync on the Pixel.  Home Assistant is running fine.  The Google Home app is installed and working fine.

Any ideas?

I tried the Uninstall/Reinstall trick with Google Home and it didn't make a difference.

Hey Bitz09,

Thanks for reaching out — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: when did it start happening? Do you have Google Home or Google Nest speakers? Did you try linking smart home devices (smart lights, switches) to your Google Home app? Try clearing the cache and data of your Google Home and Google app then, reinstall it. Rebooting your phone and checking for system updates might help too.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Alex

Hi,

Yes to all the above.  I have many Google devices on my network.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the app.  The phone has all the most recent updates.

Weird...

Hey there,

Could you try resetting your Google Home speaker? If you'll get the same result, kindly provide the cast firmware version of your speakers, Android version of your phone and your Google Home app version as well.

Thanks,

Alex

App 2.57.38.3

Device 6.20211109.3166240

Cast Firmware 1.60.305621

Thanks

Hi Bitz09,

Thanks for the info you've shared. To further isolate the issue, could you please refresh your network settings simply by unplugging your router from the power source for at least a few minutes. After that, try to see if there are any changes made.

Keep us posted.

Princess

It didn't make any difference, nor did disabling WiFi and using the phones Cellular Data.

Hi Bitz09,

Thanks for trying the steps. Could you send us a photo of the exact prompt/message that you're getting when trying to sync your devices? Also, what command are you using to sync your devices?

Best,

Princess

I'm issuing the simple command "Hey Google, Sync Devices"

It Syncs with Sonos and Home Assistant, then it tells me the Pixel 6 is unavailable, you might want to try setting it up again....

Thanks,

Hi Bitz09,

Thanks for the additional info. Looks like the issue is isolated on Pixel 6 only. Have you already contacted Pixel support if there are any updates released from their end?

Best,

Princess

I do have the same issue with a Samsung S22+, which was "connected" previously.

Hey Bitz09,

Thanks for coming back to us. Could you check "Devices" on Assistant settings to see if your Pixel 6 is listed there. Follow the steps below to know-how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your account on the upper right corner.
  3. Tap "Assistant Settings," then click on "Devices."

@Andreasc1: Good point. However, we need Pixel support to check the settings on phone first to make sure that it allows the app to discover the device.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi everyone,

We appreciate all your efforts on trying the steps we suggested. We just want to make sure that we cover all the bases, can anyone confirm if you have already tried checking or using a different phone for comparison on what you are experiencing with Pixel 6?

Still no reply from Pixel support....

Yes, we need assistance.  It doesn't work.  Should it work?  Is this behavior normal?    If de-installing the app and reinstalling it doesn't fix it...it's a GOOGLE problem.

Hey Bitz09,

To confirm, did you got an update from Pixel Support about this? Do you have a different phone that we can try to further isolate the issue?

Cheers,

Muddi

No reply, and no, I don't have a different phone.

Hi, the problem is not the actual phone. The problem is that somewhere in Google's cloud the old device is registered and is looking for it every time we ask it to sync.

Bitz09

My theory is that when I switched from a Pixel 3 to a Pixel 6 the Cloud has the ID for the Pixel 3 associated with the Pixel 6...so it cannot find the Pixel 6.  This is a backend issue, not a phone issue.  If it was a phone issue, uninstalling and reinstalling the software would have fixed it.

Hey folks,

Appreciate all your efforts. Could you try accessing this link, then let me know if you can see your Pixel 6 device on the list. Please make sure to log in the same account linked on the Google Home app.

Hey folks,

To confirm, is there a check on "Show Menus"? If yes, uncheck and re-check the box. Then remove and re-add your device on "Your devices" from your Gmail account. Make sure it's the same account linked to your speakers. This will help us refresh the connection of your phone to the Google Home app.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

The Box was  checked, I unchecked it and re-checked it.  No difference.  I then signed out of Google and re-signed in and...No difference.  The Google Home App works perfectly fine and see's everything and controls everything.

Hello,

I have the same problem with my previous phone. But it's a Samsung S10+ . When I launch resync command I obtain the same message.

The phone is in play store list but not checked (I don't know how to remove it definitively since now I own a Samsung s22)...

Your answer gave me what I needed to fix my issue. Thanks Bitz09!

For anyone who lands here in the future from Google:

  1. Go to Google Assistant settings on your phone.
  2. Scroll down and click on "devices". It was a blue box on my phone.
  3. On the next screen, there is a tile for "Remove unused devices". Click that.
  4. Select and remove your old device.

After doing the above, the message that my Pixel is unavailable when I sync devices is gone.

Nope. No devices there.
