Youtube isn't installed at the moment, Sorry something went wrong

Since yesterday (Jan 19th, 2023) I am having issues playing music using Youtube Music on Speaker Groups.

When I say: "Play some music on home group". It replies: YouTube isn't installed at the moment. Sorry something went wrong. Wen you're ready, give it another try.

My group has Gogle Nest Hubs, Google Nest Displays. I did try rebooting them all, also delete the group and re-create without any success.

Any ideas?

I am seeing this too. I have only started to look into this so if I find anything I'll post it here.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting and apologies for the inconvenience. A few questions: have you tried other music platforms to play on your speaker group? Is it playing YouTube Music on individual devices? It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router for 5 mins.
  2. Unplug the power cord of your Nest devices for 5 mins.
  3. Starting with your router, plug them back in and restarting your phone might also help

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

In my case,  playing Youtube Music to single speaker forks fine. After playing to one speaker I can enable my home group speakers using Google Home app.  I have also noticed the same issue using Google Assistant on my phone.

Seems issue is directly telling Assistant to play music on the "Home Group" speakers

I have tried restarting speakers multiple times.

Hello everyone,

It's good to know that your Nest speakers are working individually. Isolating our concern on speaker groups. If you don't mind me asking, how many Nest speakers are in the group? If it's okay with you, why don't we delete and recreate a speaker group and test it out? Follow the steps below:

To delete:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap your speaker group.
  4. Tap Delete group > Remove.

To create:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. At the top left, tap Add > Create speaker group.
  4. Tap each device you want to add to the group. A check will appear next to each device you select.
  5. Tap Next > enter a name for your group > Save.

If you have 5 or more Nest speakers, I suggest you add 2 at a time first and try to have them play as a group.

Tell us how it goes.

Regards,

Dan

Hi Dan.

I did re-create the speaker group and tried playing any song to the new group. I don't get the error, I do get a knowledge but nothing is being played. The display hubs shows black a few seconds like external source. Then goes clear.

Will be interesting to see behaviors from others

Hi folks,

Would it be okay if we isolate further by playing music from other music platforms and see if the behavior is the same as when playing music using YouTube Music? Let's try Spotify. To link other music services, follow the steps below:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. At the top right, tap your account.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the triangle next to the Google Account, then tap another account or Add another account.
  5. Go back to the home screen, and at the top left, tap Add > Music.
  6. To choose your default service, tap the music service you'd like to use. Assistant will use this service when you say “Hey Google, play music.”
  7. To link functionality:
    1. For YouTube, your account is automatically linked when you link your Google Account to your speaker or display.
    2. For Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, and others, you'll need to link your accounts.
      • To connect your account, tap a music service > Link account > sign in or sign up for the service and follow the in-app steps.
      • To unlink an account, tap Unlink > Unlink account.

Note: For all services, speakers and displays currently support a single account per streaming service.

Make sure all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Kind regards,

Dan

Hi Jake, issue still continues with YouTube music. I have not been able to test with Spotify since I don't have an account, I was planning to create one just to check ( I am pro google 🙂 )

Hello josalvmo,

Apologize for the delays. Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To confirm, have you tried using a different music service to check if you have the same issue when playing in audio group?

The problem is explicitly with the speaker groups, not with youtube.

it plays on a single device, and like Josalvmo said, you can add/change the speaker group manually after it plays.
