error "hm. something went wrong try again and hm there was a glitch trya again

We have 5 gen 2 Nest Mini's in our home connected to a Max. The minis all stopped working at the same time we have rebooted them, factory reset and reinstalled them and we can get thru the set up but when we go to use them they all will have a delay and come back with either "Hum, something went wrong try again in a few seconds or Hum there was a glitch and to try again. It never works and we get the same messages each time from all 5 of them. Our Max works great no issues. All of our other wireless/streaming devices in the house work. Anyone run into this and know how to fix it? I even purchased new ones and the same thing from the start. Any help is greatly appriciated.

TIA

Crystal

I returned home Sunday. I unplugged the speaker before we left, so it was unplugged for 16 days. The routine has worked successfully for two mornings in a row.

It's back.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday:  routine runs as usual.

Friday: "Something went wrong...."

I followed by saying: "Hey google, play GPB radio." It told me I needed a YouTube music subscription.

I followed by saying: "Hey google, play Georgia Public Broadcasting."  It worked.

I followed by cliicking on the routine in the Google Home app. It worked.

The problem seems to involve the time starter in the Assistant routine; everything else works.

I got my first Google Home speaker at the Google TC Summit in 2016. I found it useful enough to get a pair of Insignia smart speakers, then a Lenovo Smart Display.

In 2016, I could say "Hey google, play GPB" and it would work reliably. Then I had to start saying "Hey google, play GPB radio." When that stopped working, I switched to "Hey google, play Georgia Public Broadcasting." For now, that still works. The Assistant can't even handle "Stop" consistently. Once it displayed a list of rest stops on I-75 near Chattanooga, TN. Three weeks ago, after saying "Stop" three times, I said "Hey Google, shut the f*ck up" and it stopped playing. Three years ago, I got fed up with the frequent Assistant errors, and I stopped speaking to these devices except when absolutely necessary. Creating my own custom voice command to start the radio eliminated most of the errors.

This is the only technology that I use on a regular basis that has gotten less useful and more unreliable over the past 6 years. I give up. I am thankful that I never wasted money on a pair of Google Home Max speakers. I will never buy another so-called "smart" device from Google.

I am beginning to think the problem is with the Google Home app, and not with the device itself.

After failing Friday with the "Something went wrong..." message, the morning routine to play the radio worked Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

There is normally a warning tone when the routine starts. This morning, nothing. A few minutes later, I triggered the routine manually, and the radio started as expected.

I have changed nothing in the past week.

Hi SDeemer,

Sorry for the delays. To confirm, is this issue happening on your Nest Hub or Insignia device only?

Cheers,

Muddi

The Insignia device is the only one with a morning routine programmed. I am travelling, and will not be home for another 2-3 weeks, so I am unable to report on what has done since I left.

Hey SDeemer,

Got it! We'll wait for your update. I understand that Insignia doesn't want to assist you with this but I still suggest to reach out with them so they can further check what's going on with your device.

Cheers,

Muddi

I got back Saturday. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday mornings the routine worked as it should.

Hi SDeemer,

Thanks for updating us. Glad to know that it worked.

Since this has been resolved, we'll consider this as complete and will lock the thread in 24 hours. Feel free to start a new one if you need assistance with your Google Nest speakers and the community would gladly assist.

Best,

Princess
