I get all the way to where it connects my device to the wifi and it states it can not connect. Connection Problem during setup Please check your Wi-Fi network settings  .  I've entered password both auto and manually.  I have checked and confirmed the password.  All is accurate.  When Connection to Wi-FI is where I get the Connection Problem error.

I have reset the Nest itself to factory  settings, if it did in fact. I've reset modem, reset device.   Nothing It did work fine for along time then stopped, or lost connections.

Try these steps:

  1. Make sure your Google Home or Nest device is within 15 - 20 ft (4 - 6 m) of the Wi-Fi router. If you have a dual band router, try to set up your device on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

  2. Make sure Wi-Fi, Location Services and Bluetooth are turned ON on your phone or tablet.

  3. Turn OFF mobile/cellular data.

  4. Reboot your router. Most routers just require that you unplug the power source and then plug it back in to reboot.

  5. Reboot your Google Home or Google Nest device.

  6. Make sure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app, by checking your app store for any updates.

  7. Restart the Google Home app.
  • Android: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the Google Home app.
  • iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the Google Home app. On older devices with a home button, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the Google Home app.
  • Turn Wi-Fi off and on again on your phone or tablet.
  • Reopen the Google Home app.

You may also want to try setup using a different phone or tablet if you have one, just to test.

Since the Sonos lawsuit, setting up Google speakers has become almost impossible.  That's probably why the nest mini is now $19.99

There's no point in any more help forum posts.

I've done ALL those things, and it's still an issue.

Hi Tpp,

Since you've done all the steps above and still the same issue then a factory reset is needed. It will revert your device back to its default and original settings. By the way, what Google Nest speaker do you have? You can check out this guide to know how to factory reset your device and tell me how it goes.

Dan

Hello everyone,

Hats off to you all in being patient while doing the given steps however, I need to have a little bit more from you. You need to have 2 phones for this to work. One phone is what you use to setup your Nest speaker, the other phone is where you connect it to via hotspot. You need to factory reset your speakers one more time and connect your phone to the other phones hotspot before doing the setup. Tell me how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan

Will this work using an ipad as the device to set up the nest speaker, and an Android phone as the hotspot?

It SHOULDN'T take this much for devices that worked just out of the box with one phone to set them up.

Okay, I set my Pixel phone as a hotspot, used an Android tablet connected to the hotspot, to set up the factory reset Nest mini device, It got almost all the way through setup, but it then came to the "There was a problem setting up Nest Mini  For help resolving this issue, visit the help center. "

Hello again,

Hats off to you all for being patient in doing the necessary steps, it's much appreciated. There's one more step that I need you to do and that's to connect directly to your Nest speaker hotspot. What you'll do is after rebooting every device and doing a reset, go to your phones settings and make sure Wi-Fi, Location Services and Bluetooth are turned ON, turn OFF mobile/cellular data and go to your Wi-Fi settings, find the hotspot of your Nest speaker and connect to it. You might lose your connection to Wi-Fi but that's okay. Open the home app and proceed with the set up.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

No, it did not work, I continued to get the "there was a problem setting up Nest Mini" message, and when I click on the button for help center, it takes me to an "authentication isn't successful" troubleshooting page.

We'll see if setting up a brand new one works. I'm not hopeful - I expect I'm going to have to set this up every day when I get the random "so and so has removed this device from your home" message.

The good news is that the brand new device set up just fine, the old one continues to fail in set up.

I had to go out of town unexpectedly. I was told when I called Google they would be sending me a fix. So both of those kept me from filling it out. Will do now.

Already tried doing factory reset, the problems persists.  Nest mini gen 2.

I thought I reset my Audio nest but it doesn't give audible confirmation.   If it helps I have an Audio Nest Hub which is NOT having all these issues.
