google not recognizing voice match with nest hub

Pezza
Community Member

I have a Google Nest Mini and a Google Nest Hub in different rooms. I also have a TV with google tv on it.

The google nest hub does not recognize voice match. 3 people live in the house connected to it. We have all got voice match on.

The nest mini and google TV recognizes the voice match.

I have done these things. (not in any order)

  • factory reset the device
  • Reset voice match (deleted old voice data)
  • retrained voice match
  • removed from home and added back into home

After I retrain or remove and readd voice match it might(not always) recognize the voice for a little bit, but stop later on.

When I ask "who am i" some of the time wants me to do the voice match, if I try doing the steps displayed on the Google nest hub it gives me a QR code to scan and put in a code, to a web site which gives me an error 500.

When it does recognize a voice it still can not recognize anyone else.

This is ONLY happening with the Google Nest Hub.

This is NOT happening with the Google Nest mini or Google TV.

ok so my TV started playing up after i removed myself from the home saying something about personal results or settings cant remember 100% what the wording was. So i fixed that by going in to the google home app and changed the personal results. TV got fixed and thats when the hub started to recognize me.

So i went and did the same for my mum and the google hub now knows her.

I went in to the same settings for my dad and didnt change anything and now it knows him.

So maybe something with google personal results has changed in the back end.

Home set up not including phones as phones or other google active devices

  • Google Nest Hub
  • Google Nest mini
  • Sony TV with android TV

3 people in the house. I will call them 1(me), 2 and 3.

Issue: Users 1, 2 and 3 was being recognized as user 3.

Things i did these aren't in any order and sometimes done more then once on the day.

Day 1

  • Retrained voice  for users 1 and 2
  • Rebooted google hub
  • Factory reset google hub
  • **Gave up**

Day 2

  • Retrained voice for users 1 and 2
  • Account left home for users 1 and 2
  • For a test i asked my TV who i am and the TV started saying about i needed to change settings to get personal results
  • Went in to assistant settings changed them TV went back to knowing user 1
  • ** Gave up ** it was late didn't check google hub as I didn't want to wake people in the house

Day 3

  • checked to see if anything changed and found it knew user 1 but no one else
  • Couldn't be bothered trying things as I was getting frustrated

Day 4

  • Checked again and same thing, it knew user 1 but not users 2 and 3

Got the idea about personal settings

  • Went into user 2 personal settings in the google home app and changed the settings
  • Google hub knew who user 1 and 2 were
  • Went into user 3 personal settings didn't change anything
  • Google Hub knew who user 1 2 and 3 were.

Fixed

So maybe try looking at your personal settings in the assistant settings.

I think maybe google had a personal settings change in the backend but somethings didnt carry over with some people/devices.

Funny thing is, this issue started on my dads birthday and it was recognizing everyone as my dad, so if we said good morning, it would wish him a happy birthday.

EDIT: made a little more detailed

Yesterday I started having a similar problem.  My Google home Mini ver 1 have been working fine but yesterday they all decided that everyone was my son.  no mater who said "who am I" it would answer with my son's name.  We tried retraining, deleting and re-adding various people.  in the end of a few hours of trying, now all devices think everyone is me.  This means that my son can not access his paid services now, like it was for me yesterday.  This must be a global change that Google did to all Google Home Mini ver 1 devices (or more).  This is a very serious problem and if it continues, we will be canceling several paid Google services that are no longer usable.

My problem isn't the mini, it's the hub.

At the moment it knows me but no one else.

What "personal settings" are you talking about and what specifically did you change about them? Do you mean the Personal Results section?

Correct the personal results.

Sorry this was a few months ago, trying to remember what I did. Think I might have toggled the settings off and on just to refresh it.

It's been working 100% since I did it.

Hey Pezza,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. I'm happy to know that your issue with voicematch on your Google Nest Hub was resolved. Also, we appreciate you for sharing the steps that you've done to fix it.

@Kddc: Are you having the same issue? Below are the steps to toggle "Personal Result" on the Google Home app.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. At the top-right, tap the account icon.
  3. Verify that the Google account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the dropdown arrow and then choose another account or Add another account .
  4. Go back to the home view .
  5. Tap the device card of the preferred speaker or display.
  6. At the top-right, tap Settings Settings and then Recognition and sharing and then Recognition and personalization.
  7. On Allow Personal results, slide the slider on/off.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

I'm fine have been for a while. I came back recently to reply to kddc.

Think you might have got the name wrong. Haha

Yes it did help! I now have an issue where the hub does t recognize me by face so I have to always use voice to favorite a photo. I'll look into that separately. Thanks for the help!

Hey Pezza,

This makes me laugh! My bad - my previous post should be for @Kddc. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Hey Kddc,

Thanks for the update. To confirm, do you have a Google Nest Hub Max? If yes, you can try the steps on this link. For now, face match is only available on Nest Hub Max.

Hope this helps.
