nest hub 2nd gen breaks my wifi

Dears,

I hope someone might help me with the following:

I recently purchased a nest hub 2nd gen, and every time I plug it in, my wifi stops working after a few minutes. After unplugging the nest hub, the wifi eventually comes back up stable.

i have an asus RT-AC87U router with both a 2,4ghz and 5ghz wifi network configured, with distinct ssid's. I use the 5ghz band most: phone, tablet, 2 chromecasts and a samsung smart tv (frame). There's also a Hue bridge and some hue lights on the network. Before the nest hub was introduced to the mix, everything was working stable.

I was initially able to install and configure the nest hub on the 5ghz network, and tried out some voice commands to test it out. After about 5 minutes or so it told me there was an issue and shortly after showed the "no connection" screen. I then realized that all other devices on this 5ghz network were offline as well. The 2,4ghz network was still in the list of available networks on my phone and tablet. Eventually the 5ghz network came back online, only to drop out again a few minutes later.

I've tried some trouble shooting steps like rebooting the router, updating the router firmware to the latest version, disabling an unused guest network, etc... So far unfortunately no luck in getting this issue resolved: Each time I plug in the nest hub, wifi goes down within 5 minutes.

I’m hoping someone could provide some advice or suggestions on how to further troubleshoot and resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi foxer2468,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I am sorry to hear that your WiFi network stops working every time you try to connect your Google Nest Hub 2nd generation. I can see that your WiFi network comes back up stable after disconnecting the Google Nest Hub 2nd generation. Thank you for letting us know that you are using an Asus RT-AC87U router with a dual-band, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wifi network configured with distinct SSID's. This is an important detail, as it is to know that most of your devices are connected to the 5 GHz band. No worries; it is my pleasure to assist you with this inconvenience.

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some important questions:

Have you tried to connect your Google Nest Hub 2nd generation to the 2.4 GHz band?

Could you please disconnect another device and connect the Google Nest Hub 2nd generation and let me know what happened?

When you open the Google Home app, do your devices remain online or go offline?

Have you tried to use a hotspot to connect the Google Nest Hub 2nd generation?

Are there any other networking devices on the network aside from the wireless router, such as an extender, repeater, or another access point?

What's the Google Nest Hub 2nd generation firmware version?

How far is your Google Nest Hub 2nd generation from your router?

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your answer.

Best regards,

Virna
