presence detection

I want to set routines for my nest hub in google Home but I can not find the present detection. I want to set things for when I leave the house but nothing happens because I can not set the presence detection. Google Help says it's in the Settings, but I can't find it.

Dan, I'm busy with my smart home this evening. Most of the items I indeed put in the same home and in the same room. Since now I've made a routine for my plug to start when I am not presence (within 100 meters) the google home app shows "set home and away routines" in a blue line on the main screen. Allthough the routines are most likely only available for google nest cams, I can make routines for my camera with a separate plug. Not ideal, but it works.

The presence detection is still not in my settings-menu, but now I'm confident that I can make routines with it. Thanks for your answers and thinking, I think it's time to close this topic.

Hi Peter63,

Warmest welcome from the Community team.

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― could you confirm what type of Google Nest Hub do you have if it’s the 1st or 2nd Generation?

To get you started, it would be best to click the links below for more information. From there, you can follow the steps on how to activate home and away routines.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

Dan, thanks for your answer. I'm using the 2nd generation, problem is, that Google Home app is not showing the option for presence detection. Is it because I have nothing connected tot the nest that is compatible? I have a tp link camera tapo C100 and I want only notificatians of movement when I am not at home. The seller in the store told me that this camera doesn't support that function. But the camera is shown in the home app and supported by the nest (it can show live view) Can you please help me?

Hello again,

You don't need a Google Nest product to use Home & Away Routines but your third-party smart light, switch, or plug or even doorbell/camera must be compatible with Google Assistant to use it with Home & Away Routines.

At this time, Home & Away are the only Routines that can use presence sensing as a trigger. We will continue to expand the capabilities of custom Routines. While we aren't ready to make specific announcements, the Routines road map includes adding new triggers, conditions, and actions.

We appreciate people who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback. You can use this link to submit a feedback. Let us know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise, we will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Regards,

Dan

Dan,  the issue here, there is no possibility to set home and away routines, because there is no option in my home app. I've got lamps, indoor camera and doorbell connected to google home and nest 2nd generation,, all compatible with google assistant, but when I want to set routines, there is no option to set home or away. My colleague has this option in a blue line in his home app, but I haven't! Very frustrating.

Hi Peter63,

That's interesting! Are all your devices on the same WiFi network? If they are, are they on the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz(if active)?

Also, if you can't find a device in the available starters and actions for a Routine, check that the device is in the same home that you're using for the Routine: In the Google Home app , go to the Home screen . find the device. If the device is in "Local devices" instead of a room, the device is in a different home.

Best,

Dan

PS: it concerns a Tapo camera (TP-link) which I now connected in a Zigbee protocol plug, and set the routine with the third party software.

Hi again,

When you go to your Home app and you tap Routine, do you see the household routines called "Home" and "Away"?

Dan

Dan, when I tap routines, there is no option for home or away, only personal routines and your routines start on ....

In my personal routines there is an option for leaving or coming home, but this is for spoken text (when I say hey google, I'm leaving.

I want to do this automaticly, when I leave the house, a plug should go on (like I did it now in the zigbee app)

Hello Peter63,

Thank you for the information. If the home and away routines are not showing up while your TP-Link Tapo C100 camera is linked, it just shows and as per the seller who mentioned this to you, it might not be compatible with that specific feature. I recommend you contact TP-Link to gain more information about this since our devices rely heavily on the functions and features of 3rd party devices to work.

Tell me how it goes.

Best regards,

Dan
