"I don't understand" every time I request Google Home to play radio or music

Google Home stopped playing music with a "Sorry I don't understand" error.

Everything worked fine one day, then the next morning none of the music commands from scheduled routines worked -- "Sorry I don't understand" was the only response.  If I tell it to play a radio station:  I don't understand.  If I tell it to play a music stream from my linked Pandora: I don't understand.  Routines with commands to play radio stations:  I don't understand.

I reset the device by unplugging it.  I reloaded the app from the play store.  I checked my internet connection.  I checked my Pandora and TuneIn apps.  No fix suggested by Google in various forums has worked.

Hi JamesPFitz,

Thanks for posting in the community! I understand how annoying it is when commands that used to work suddenly stop, especially with a "Sorry, I don't understand" error.

I appreciate the time you took to check for a solution to the sudden issue. I'm here to help you get your music playing again.

To help me pinpoint what's going on, please provide a few more details.

  • When did this issue begin?
  • Can a recent update be the reason?
  • Have you checked the routines in your Google Home app? Consider that a minor glitch in the routine's setup can cause unexpected behavior.

Your answers to these questions will help me to further investigate.

Regards,

Humberto
