"Stereo Pair" disappeared

It's been bad enough that I had to keep resetting my Google Max stereo pair to factory on a weekly, almost daily basis and renaming and repairing them due to the known problems with speaker groups well-documented elsewhere. But now, the ability to set up a stereo pair--even one that must be reset regularly--has apparently gone away. That option no longer appears on the "Audio" screen of the device setup menu in the Google Home app.

Google, have you just decided to stop supporting speaker groups altogether? Did Sonos beat you up so badly that your programmers are unable to fix the issue? Or wait, is it just that you're so huge that you don't have to care about your Google Home customers?

Hi scragin,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with your speaker devices and the stereo pair option. I understand how frustrating it can be when things do not work as expected. But don't worry; I can help.

Just to let you know, for an immersive music and media experience, you can connect 2 speakers to set up stereo sound. Stereo sound pairing is available on Google Home, Google Nest Mini (2nd gen), Google Home Mini (1st gen), Google Home Max, and Google Nest Audio. Both devices need to be the same model and located in the same room.

I need to ask for some information to provide the best solution:

  • What devices are you trying to pair for the stereo sound?
  • Are the speaker devices about 10 feet apart from the WiFi router?
  • The devices are connected to the same WiFi network and Google account?

This information will help us to confirm that everything is set up properly and to explore more options in case it is necessary.

Best regards,

Jenny
