2.4Ghz wifi not working

Hi. I'm having issues connecting my Chromecast to my home network. I can connect it to my 5Ghz wifi, but it's not ideal, and I want to use it on the 2.4Ghz network, but it just doesn't connect. I tried factory resetting the device, reinstalling and resetting the Home app on my phone, restarting my modem/router, unplugging and re plugging the Chromecast... It still does not connect only to the 2.4Ghz network. It does not show an error code, it only says "couldn't connect to (SSID)" and prompts me to retry. When I press "retry", it asks me for a proxy config, but I don't use that. I'm out of ideas. The basic troubleshooting steps I found after searching the internet have not solved my issue. I hope someone can help me somehow.

Chromecast definitely has problems in case of Wi-Fi connectivity. It can not handle more, than one Wi-Fi connection remembered. At least it looks like. Many people have such problem.

If this is true, then we have a problem as customers.

Google support team has to be informed.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and for doing some steps beforehand — these are of great help! To cover all the bases, could you please manually connect to the Chromecast SSID? Here's how: Go to the phone Settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.

If the issue persists and you're familiar with your router settings, please configure it. See the router settings below that you need to check:

Enable these settings on your router, if applicable:

  1. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)/Multicast
  2. Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)

Disable these settings on your router, if applicable:

  1. AP/client isolation
  2. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
  3. Proxy Servers
  4. Disable auto channel selection on the 2.4 GHz band on your router and assign a fixed channel (1, 6, or 11).

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Pol011,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing the same issue with your Chromecast. Could you please confirm if you already tried rebooting your Chromecast and WiFi router? If you haven't yet, try that and please perform a factory reset on your Chromecast.

Thanks,

Jennifer
