Assistant not playing movies from library

I am trying to get Assistant to play a movie I own that is in my Google Play library. I say the phrase, "Play TITLE on the TV." It seems to work at first... Assistant will say "Got it, here is TITLE on Google Play Movies and TV on TV," my tv will turn on and open the Google Play Movies and TV app... and then nothing. The title doesn't play. The app doesn't even open all the way - I just see the app icon in the middle of the screen and it says Ready to Cast on the top left. If I leave it open (to wait for it), it times out and the Google TV homepage appears. How can I make this happen?

Some info:

  • It is a Samsung Smart TV, but I am using the Google TV.
  • The device that I am speaking to is either the Nest speaker next to the TV or my phone (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra running Android 14).
  • I have no issues with other commands.

Things I've tried that didn't work:

  • Rebooting the Google TV
  • Unlinking and relinking the Google TV to my Home account
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling all of the updates for the Google Play Movies and TV app on the Google TV
  • Making sure all of the permissions are enabled
  • Making sure the Google TV and Google Play Movies and TV app are updated
  • Making sure my phone and the Home app are updated
  • Rewording the phrase to tell Assistant. I tried every phrase I could think of and it either "worked" in the same way, starting the task but never actually playing or just didn't work at all.
  • Trying different titles, both movies and TV shows. None of them would play.

Thanks for posting in the community.

 

I'm sorry about the issues you've been experiencing when trying to cast movies or TV shows on your Google TV. I understant that you ask to the assistant to cast movies to your TV and it triggers the action but on your TV you are not able to see anything, just a black screen and a couple of seconds later it goes back to the home screen even after all the troubleshooting steps that you have followed. For more help, you can visit the Google TV Help Center and also post your concerns in the Google TV Community.
