Can't access settings for Chromecast in Google Home app

RoyRacing

Not so much a "getting started problem" but a problem in the app.

So, everything works:
Chromecast is visible in the app
Chomecast works on the tv
I can cast from my laptop (chrome) to  the tv, I can mirror the laptop
And also casting from certain apps on my Iphone directly or with a extra app my whole screen is possible.

What does not work:
In the Google home app I see the device but can't do anything there.  It can tell if it is on or offline with the main tile. But when I go in it says:
"Not available
Couldn't find Chromecast in this wifi-network. Check if the device is online and if your phone/tablet is connected to the same wifi."

100% sure I'm using the same network

Main screen:

When I click the Chromecast:

When I click setting:

Hi @RoyRacing,

Thank you for contacting the Google Nest Community. I am sorry to hear about the trouble you are having with your Google TV Streamer 4K settings not appearing in the Google Home app, even though the rest of the device is functioning correctly. I’m happy to assist you.

To help us troubleshoot, could you please answer the following:

  • What's the firmware version
  • What's the router brand and/or model?
  • What's your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ISP speed?
  • Has the streaming device been connected to this network before or is this the first time setting the device up?
  • How far is the streaming device from the WiFi router?
  • How many devices are connected to the router?
  • Did the Internet Service Provider (ISP) upgrade or make any changes to the router or modem?
  • Are there any other networking devices on the network aside from the wireless router (Example: extender, repeater, or another access point)?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Gabriela

Firmware: UTTC.250917.004.14193937
Router: Deco X50 - 5G
ISP: Odido 5G (Tested with speedtest: 700 - 800Mbps down / 45 - 50Mbps up)
First time setup
They are almost next to each other
On this router 12 devices, on 2 accesspoints another 6
No changes
See above, yes 2 AP.

Thanks in advance

Hi @RoyRacing,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the time you took to respond to my questions and provide me with important information about your Google TV Streamer. I'm glad to continue assisting you.

Please follow these troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

  • Go to your phone Settings > WiFi.
  • Toggle WiFi Off, wait a moment, and then toggle it back On.
  • For iOS devices: Go to Settings > Privacy > Local Network. Find the Google Home app and ensure Local Network Access is turned on.
  • On your TV, go to Settings > Network and Internet to ensure the device is connected to the correct WiFi network.
  • Restart the router: Unplug the router from the power outlet and leave it unplugged for 2 minutes.
  • Restart the Streamer: Unplug the Google TV Streamer from the power source for 2 minutes, then plug it back in.
  • Restart the App: Fully close and then reopen the Google Home app.
  • Alternative Setup Method
  • If the issue persists, try setting up the Google TV Streamer using a different phone or tablet.
  • Factory Reset (Last Resort)
  • If none of the above works, perform a factory reset: On the Google TV home screen, select All settings > System > About > Factory Reset.

Feel free to keep posting if you have more questions.

Regards,

Gabriela

We have a winner...

  • For iOS devices: Go to Settings > Privacy > Local Network. Find the Google Home app and ensure Local Network Access is turned on.

Local Network was off (facepalm)

I can access it now. Thanks a lot!
