I am using VLC (but problems happens with any player)
I can play a local file that is HD. But I cannot play a local 4k file (very slow)
Is file playing not supported? Or is the device not powerful enough?

I just got a EN1040k box (aka youin), with CPU s905x3 . IT's very similar to CCWGT cpu S905D3.
EN1040k played the same videos flawlessly ( I tried both from internal memory and from a USB2.0 device)
So it's either something in the CCWGT software or something very wrong on S905D3

I guess you haven't tried to talk to Google support team, for an official point of view, after all.

Google support redirected me to stack overflow

Why would they do that?
They were not able to give you a pertinent answer or do you need security clearance to hear it?😜

Right.. Representative was at least honest and told me he was not knowledgeable enough. IT seems the escalation path is https://developers.google.com/cast and click 'Stackoverflow' or 'github' at the bottom of the page.

A yes!
They, în fact, redirected you to talk to their development team, because they are responsible for feature integration.

I don't know why. Perhaps some software update? Perhaps some other conflicting app I inadverterly I changed?
I cannot figure out what could have been

Uncertainty would not get you to know your equipment better.
One must know what he is doing all the time, remember to check for updates and follow other applications activity.
Sometimes may seem a tedious job, but that's how system diagnosis and maintenance is done.
Personally, I had no doubt about this processor capabilities, because it can play even 8k videos, but not at their intended frame rate.
Good to hear it's working again, though.
On another note, it is funny how Google created and allowed this community to interact, but they don't seem to take an active part in it by responding to questions or offering assistance.
A reputable equipment manufacturer is expected to stay behind its product, promote its capabilities and also acknowledge feedback from customers.
But, I guess, sometimes I expect too much or I am accustomed with the level of support I get from the DJ equipment manufacturers I deal with.

Hey there!
It sounds like jj001's issue was resolved, so I'm locking the thread. As always, feel free to make a new thread if you have any more questions or concerns.
Thank you for your help, GothamNY and djtetei!
Best regards,
