Casting youtube

My son is watching YouTube on his Google assisted TV, but we can control it from our phones and tablet... Why can we and how is it doing this?

When you are all using the same network as you would in your home, you can control the casting from all supported devices.

You can pause your son's playback of Youtube etc.
