I had to get a replacement remote for my Chromecast with Google TV 4k because one got dropped and no longer works. I have two brand new remotes and neither will update firmware and are stuck on 22.2. When I go to update the firmware it looks to be successful, but the firmware version never changes. When it says complete on the screen the light on the remote will flash a couple of times and that is it. I have tried pairing the remote on two different Chromecasts and have the same results. My old remote shows it is on firmware 26.5.
I thought it might have been a bad remote, so I got a second replacement and it has the exact same issue.
All the remotes are Google Model: G9N9N
Chromecast Versions
Android TV OS version: 12
Android TV OS security patch level: January 1, 2023
Android TV OS Build: STTE.221215.004.A1.9716989

Hey Kimy,
I am still having the same issue. I am not getting any new updates on my device. I check the Chromecast firmware versions and release notes and my device has the current version shown on that page. (https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7124014)
I have build number: STTE.230319.008.R1 and I am at the April 2023 patch level. I checked all 3 of my devices and they are all at the same versions. I tried pairing the remote to 2 different ones and have the same issue still with the remote firmware not updating.
Thanks,
Gary

Hello Gary,
Thanks for the reply. Is it still stuck on the January patch? Can you check this time if an update can be done? You can try to factory reset the device one more time, then set it up from scratch. Let me know how it goes.
Cheers,
Kimy

Hey Kimy,
I am still having the same issue and I stated before I am on the current release at the April 2023 patch level which is showing as the current production level according to the current Chromecast firmware page (https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7124014). I tried a factory reset and still the firmware on my remotes fails to update.
Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary,
What country are you from? I checked that link you shared, and it has the update for July 2023. It is quite odd that you still have the one for April 2023. I look forward to your response.
Thanks,
Kimy
