Chromecast 4k Google TV - no youtube video

Hello,

I purchased a Chromecast 4k TV about a month ago.  I bought it because my older smart tv cannot get some apps.

I have an issue where YouTube works when I search videos and I can see the list of videos.  But as soon as I select a video, I get the audio, but no video, the screen stays black.  But sometimes it works.  I have to disconnect the power from the Chromecast and plug it back in.  It's only YouTube all other apps work fine.

I am not casting from my Android phone.  Just using it directly plugged into my TV in an HDMI port

When I use my Smart TV for YouTube is fine.

Btw I am using an LG TV but there was no option so I chose Android.

Help?

Thanks,

Z

Hi VeePee,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast is showing a black screen when you’re casting from YouTube. I'm here to help.

To better investigate the inconvenience, I’d like to ask the following:

  • How far is the Google Chromecast device from the router?
  • Is the internet connection stable?
  • Have there been any changes to the router settings?
  • Are the devices connected to the same network?
  • Did you get any error messages?

In the meantime, I’d suggest the following steps:

  • Make sure you have the latest versions of the LG TV firmware and YouTube app.
  • Make sure you have the latest firmware version of your Chromecast. You can find this information in the article: Chromecast firmware versions and release notes.
  • Try uninstalling and reinstalling the YouTube app.
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting the Chromecast device. For instructions, you can check out this article: Change the Wi-Fi network of Google streaming devices.
  • Try a different HDMI port. Test if using a different HDMI port on the TV improves the connection.
  • If possible, try connecting the Chromecast to another TV to see if the inconvenience persists.
  • If these steps don’t work as expected, consider performing a factory reset. Refer to this article for instructions: How to factory reset your Chromecast.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
