Chromecast Ambient mode only selecting a few photos...

Hello -

The problem I'm experiencing with Chromecast Ambient mode seems to be one that others are having as welll -- namely that the album I've selected for ambient mode has 684 photos in it, but ambient mode more or less just rotates through the same 50 photos. I've changed curation to Live Albums Only, but that didn't solve anything. I've also turned on the option to display vertical photos, so that's not it.

Is there some way to change this? I would really love to see all photos appear in ambient mode -- not just a select few. Thank you.

Hi AndrewGBerlin,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I’m sorry that you’re encountering trouble playing your album on the Ambient Mode with your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and showing only 50 of the same photos you have even though the album has more than 684 photos. I understand how frustrating it must be. Let’s work together to find a solution.

For this concern, please ensure you use the Google Photos album to enjoy the photos that mean the most to you on your Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Google Photos automatically attempts to select what it thinks are the best photos from your live albums and recent highlights. Google Photos attempts to remove objectively weak photos (blurry, poor exposure, low resolution, near duplicates).

To isolate this situation, please do the following:

Restart your Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Here are the steps:

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings, then System, and then Restart.
  2. After the device shuts down, to turn it on again, press the power button.

Please let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Byron

Hi Byron --

Thanks for the answer, but those steps didn't change anything. I don't have any photos that are blurry, poor resolution, etc., and I'm still seeing such a low percentage of my photos showing up. Really wish this could be repaired.

Oh, it also does some weird things on large portrait orientation photos -- zooms in for some unknown reason so I don't see the entire image. (This has been happening since an update about 2 years ago.)

I so like the feature, and it's just super frustrating that it ignores most of my photos. 😞
