Chromecast Google TV 4K ethernet connection issue

Hi!

I have been using my streamer with a Baseus 6in1 USB HUB for about 2 years now, connecting it to my wired network. It used to work without any problems. But something changed a few months ago, because it hasn't worked since then.

I have another Baseus HUB (it's an 8in1), which still works fine with the streamer, but I need it in the office. I assumed that the previous HUB might have broken, so I thought I would buy a new one, but this time I chose an Axagon product, which only has PD and Rj45, since I don't need any other ports and it costs half as much. Unfortunately, this HUB also doesn't work with the streamer.

If I unplug the HUB USB-C from the Chromecast and plug it into a laptop, the laptop gets the local wired network for all three products, so I came to the conclusion that this is not a fault of the local network or the HUBs, but perhaps we are talking about some software compatibility issue that may have developed in your system a few months ago.

Of course, I restarted all the components of the system several times.
I haven't tried resetting the Chromecast to factory settings, but I would only do that if there is no other solution.

Please help me solve the situation!

Thanks:

Hi NRGKZ89,

Thanks for posting in the community.

I understand how puzzling it must be to have your Chromecast with Google TV (4K)'s Ethernet connection stop working with your Baseus 6 in 1 USB-C Hub after two years. I appreciate the troubleshooting efforts you've already tried, including testing different hubs and your network to better understand the cause of this inconvenience. Don’t worry, I’m here to help.

To help me get to the bottom of this, please answer the following questions:

  • What's the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) firmware version? You can use this Google Help Center article as a reference: Find your device’s firmware version.
  • Have you tried connecting your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) to a different USB-C port on your Baseus 6 in 1 USB-C Hub?
  • Are you getting any error messages in the Google Home app or on the TV screen when this issue occurs?
  • How far is your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) from your router?
  • What is the make and model of your router?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a change in your WiFi network or recent outages?

In the meantime, I recommend you try the following steps to restore the connection between your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and your Baseus 6-in-1 USB-C Hub:

  • Verify if there is a pending Chromecast with Google TV (4K) update. Please follow these instructions:

    • From the Google TV home screen, go to your profile picture.
    • Select Settings.
    • Select System, then choose About.
    • Select System update.
    • You can check the status of your update on the Google TV home screen.
    • You can use the LED on the streaming device to verify that it's updating. The update typically takes 10-12 minutes. The Chromecast with Google TV (4K)'s LED light pulses while it receives the update.
    • You will see a firmware number. If an update is available, please install it. If the system is already up to date, you will see a message stating, "The system is updated."

After checking the update, please verify if your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) can be connected to your USB-C Hubs. If the inconvenience persists, proceed to the next step.

  • Reboot the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) by following these steps:

  1. Unplug the USB-C connection from your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) to disconnect it from the power source.
  2. Leave the device unplugged for one minute, then plug it back in.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna

Dear Virna,

I'm very glad you replied, thank you.

However, since my post, I've spent many hours over the weekend talking to 4 of your colleagues to address my issue and we've finally come to the conclusion that there's no direct solution, as the problem (incompatibility) was probably caused by a software update on a Chromecast Google TV.
Your colleague also mentioned that it is possible that this issue will be resolved with a future firmware update, as she has reported this to your technical support team, but she cannot guarantee it.

Accordingly, on Sunday I ordered a HUB that is identical to the only HUB I have that works.
This was the most expensive solution, I'm not happy about it, but I didn't have a better idea.
For now, I would close this matter with this, assuming that my new purchase will solve my problem.

Best regards,
Zoltán
