My Chromecast has had issues connecting with my iPhone for two weeks. The only thing that’s changed is that I got a new router, but it initially connected to the new equipment and cast just fine with no hiccups. Suddenly, when trying to cast from apps like YouTube, the iPhone would recognize the Chromecast, I’ve done all of the troubleshooting steps including a factory reset of both the Chromecast and new router. Still won’t connect. I don’t use any other Google home devices, but my other smart items connect and work just fine, so I can’t imagine it’s the router?
manually connecting via the SSID nets me some success, and the prompts on both the tv and the phone will go so far as to say the device is connected, but then I get the error message; “Bedroom TV may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone.” the Chromecast doesn’t show up in Google Home, but I can see it and select it on YouTube. Still no luck connecting, though.
I’ve had this Chromecast for almost four years now. Should I just invest in a new one?

Thanks Jennifer, but those recommendations didn’t help.
after more research and troubleshooting, the issue appears to be linked to my router. I switched from a router that offered me two bands (2.4 and 5 ghz) to an advanced in-home router that offers only one. I had to go into my new router’s settings and manually enable a setting called uPNP — without it, it pretty much renders any of the phone’s/Google Home’s permissions useless. Again, all of the other smart devices in my setup have been operating just fine, so this setting change only seems to really benefit the Chromecast. Can’t complain though, as long as it works.
Hopefully this solution can benefit others who are encountering similar issues.

Hi CCarter94,
Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. To cover all the bases, please turn on the Local Network Access from your iPhone's settings. See the steps below:
If the issue persists, turn off/on the Wi-Fi on your phone and reinstall the Google Home app, then reboot your mobile device.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,
Jennifer
