These casting issues can be tricky to solve on your own, so I'd be happy to help you out. First of all, what model of Chromecast do you have? Also, you mentioned you aren't able to factory reset the Chromecast; what color is the LED light on the Chromecast? Depending on the model of the Chromecast, the LED light could mean a few different things.
