Chromecast remote wont turn on my Sony TV.

Hi,
I have three Google Chromecast 4k in my house.

And my children have learn to control the remote, so I bought a chromecast remote to replace the remote for our primary Sony TV (2021) with Google TV in our living room.
Everything works great except for when the Sony TV is on standby for a longer time. Then you can't use the chromecast remote to turn it on. It works if I turn the TV off and after like 5 minutes I can turn it on but not when it's turned off for like 30 minutes.

Is there anything I can do about it ?
When we configured the other chromecast on the other tv:s, we could set it up with infra and bluetooth but with the Sony TV it just connected with the bluetooth and nothing else.

Best regards

Hey there Noxx,

I apologize for the late response, and thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that remote issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out. Go ahead and give these steps a try:

  1. Try unplugging your Chromecast for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in. This will reset the device and may resolve the issue.
  2. Check your TV's settings to make sure that HDMI-CEC is enabled. This is a feature that allows devices connected to your TV to communicate with each other. If HDMI-CEC is enabled, your Chromecast should be able to turn on your TV when you press the power button on the remote.
  3. Try using a different HDMI port on your TV.
  4. Go into the Chromecast settings and make sure the power button is set up to turn on the TV rather than just the Chromecast.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

No the issue is still the same.

HDMI-CEC is enabled but..

I think I need to explain myself a little better.

I have 3 google tv chromecast and they are working fine, the remotes can control the samsung and philips tv.

I have one new Sony TV with ”Google TV” which I bought a standalone Google TV chromecast remote for to ditch the big ugly Sony remote.

I connected the new remote to bluetooth of the  Sony TV and everything works except for turning on the TV when the TV has been turned off for a long time.

When you set up an google tv chromecast, in the startup guide you can search for what type of tv brand you have and then the remote can use IR instead right?

Maybe the Sony Tv is missing drivers/program for the chromecast remote to be able to enable the IR.

I know that the original sony remote has both IR and bluetooth but only using bluetooth for voice command and firmware updates and IR for everything else.

Best regards
