I have a supervised account set up with screen time limits. The time limits apply to all but the YouTube app, why? I see that this question has been asked on this forum before but I don’t see any clear resolution. I have tried to set this up from the Family Link app as well without success.

Hi timbuktu,
The reason why the time limits set up for a supervised account are not applied to the YouTube app is because YouTube is a separate app and not directly controlled by the Family Link settings.
To restrict access to YouTube , you can try enabling Restricted Mode within the YouTube app. This will filter out potentially mature content, and it may also help enforce the screen time limits you have set up.
Alternatively, you can try using a third-party app such as Screen Time Parental Control to set up time limits for the YouTube app specifically. This app allows you to set up individual time limits for each app on your device, including YouTube.
Note that some devices may have a separate YouTube Kids app, which is designed specifically for children and has additional parental controls. You may want to consider using this app instead of the standard YouTube app if you are looking for more comprehensive parental controls.

Thank You

I know that the Family Link settings apply to the device. And that’s what I did: set the device to have a time limit of one hour. So my expectation is that it will stop after one hour. It does indeed stop if I watch Disney or Netflix or Hulu or any combination of them for an hour. But it does not stop if I watch one hour of YouTube. And that’s what I’d like to know how to fix.

Hi folks,
Appreciate the help, AriefAnshori.
timbuktu, thanks for reaching out. What Chromecast device are we working on? Did it work before? Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

I have the Chromecast with Google TV (4K). I already did what you suggested. In fact I have rebooted the device many times since I last posted here. I had reset the device, and even removed kid's profile a couple of times without any use. There's only one HDMI port that I can use on the TV so there's much I can do there.
This shouldn't be so hard. It's clearly a bug that needs to be addressed on the software end.

I bought chrome cast specifically so that I could use screen limit, and limit how much YouTube my daughter watches. So it's infuriating to find the day after I installed it that I can't limit her screen time!!

Same here, it does not work. We switched from fire tv to chromecast but its not working. Everything is 100% correct installed. It works on kids smartphones but the time limit on chromecast does not work. We have set the chromecast to 30 mins but they watch 1 hour youtube kids on tv and its not possible to limit it. Solution for us: Send chromecast back.

Same problem for me as well. It worked the first time I've set it up but I had to remove the kids profile in order to set a new PIN which is already frustrating. Now the kids timer is not working anymore...
