I have a chromecast with google tv 4k. I have installed Skyshowtime with a premium subscription. I can only get stereo sound in streaming. I have contacted Skyshowtime but they refer to the chromecast settings. Is there anything I can do?

Hello HMP1,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Community Forum. I understand you only get stereo sound in your Chromecast with Google TV. Don’t worry; I’m happy to provide you with more information.

To customize the sound format, follow the instructions:

  • Turn on your Google streaming device and then go to All settings at the top right of the TV screen.

  • Select Display and sound then Advanced sound settings then Surround sound format selection and then Manual.

  • In the section Supported formats, select the format you want to use.

In addition, I suggest checking out this article: Sound settings for Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer, to adjust advanced sound settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Daniel

I have tried as you said in the settings in the Chromecast without success. In addition to Skyshowtime, I have installed Disney+, HBOmax, Netflix and Prime. All the other apps have no problems with the sound, all stream at least 5.1 surround sound, but not Skyshowtime, they only stream with stereo sound, although they claim that they also stream with 5.1 surround sound and that it is the Chromecast that is the fault. My streaming goes through Chromecast with Google TV 4k - Panasonic TX-65GZ960E - Denon AVR-X2600H.

Hello HMP1,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. It's great to know you've taken action on the matter by testing this behavior with other streaming apps. So let’s explore more tips.

  • Ensure the Google Chromecast is up to date.

  • Try to uninstall and reinstall the SkyShowtime app.

  • Reboot your TV by disconnecting it for about one minute and then reconnecting it.

I'll be looking forward to hearing back.

Regards,

Daniel

Hi again
Now I have tried all your suggestions without success. Everything turned off at the main switch, unplugged from the connection, Skyshowtime uninstalled and reinstalled, and everything is updated on the Chromecast, both system and apps. In addition, I can say that under Chromecast all settings - screen and sound - advanced sound settings - manual, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos with Dolby Digital Plus are active, as the devices work with these formats. DTS is inactive as the devices do not work with this format.

I have exactly the same problem, the 5.1 sound only doesn't work in the Skyshowtime app, in the other apps it works perfectly (Netflix, Amazon Prime and Max)

Hello folks,

I appreciate your continuous communication and the effort you've put into the troubleshooting steps listed in this post.

In this case, it seems that the situation is oriented to this specific app since the other apps are working correctly regarding the audio. My advice is to contact the SkyShowtime support team. They should be able to provide the most accurate information to get it working smoothly with the app again.

Best regards,

Daniel

Thank you for your involvement. However, it seems that the problem is with the SkyShowtime app installed on the Chromecast because I also have the SkyShowtime app installed directly on the LG TV and that works correctly in terms of 5.1 sound.

It's inconvenient to stay on Chromecast in the Amazon, Max, Netflix apps and when I want to access SkyShowtime I have to go to the TV app.
