Chromecast won't turn on with remote

I have two 4k Chromecast with Google TV. Both have stared not switching on with the Google remote. It turns on the TV (Sony) but the Chromecast will not switch on. I have to pull the power and then it will reboot. This was not the case before, I think a software update has maybe caused an issue. Anyone else got this problem?

Yes, I do.  Just bought a fire stick and added it to same Google chromecast TV I am watching.

HOME used to be real easy to stream videos, now the "sources" are getting screwed up and seems to be reacting badly and have had to reboot phone, shut TV, etc.  Uggh.  TV says resolution NOT supported.

Yep, been seeing this over the past month on one of our three TVs with Chromecast.  I’ve tried all recommended fixes, yet the issue persists.  Next step is to call 1-855-260-6683.

I'd like to know the answer to the question two..

I have a CCGWTV that has been connected to the same HDMI port for 6 months.

This is a bedroom TV and only gets turned on at night.   It's random but most of the time I press the power button and it turns on the tv, but the CCGWTV never comes up on the screen.

I look at the device in the back of the tv and the light is white.

My only fix so far is to power cycle it.

What can I do to fix this issue?

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. For scenarios such as a black screen or no signal on the TV screen while the Chromecast device shows good LED status, it is mostly related to HDMI communication.

Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

  • Plug your Chromecast into a different HDMI port on your TV.
  • Reboot your TV and Chromecast device.
  • Remove and replace the batteries on your Chromecast Voice Remote.
  • You can factory reset your Chromecast Voice Remote.
  • You can also factory reset your Chromecast device.
  • Try another TV to isolate it.

Thanks,

Kimy

I tried everything except for the factory reset of the Chromecast device or the factory reset of the Chromecast remote.  The device still won’t turn on with the remote.

Hi Syscrusher,

Thanks for trying the steps. You can factory reset the remote first, then proceed with pairing by doing a quick press on the Chromecast device’s only button. When the TV screen prompts that it’s searching for an accessory, proceed with pairing the remote. If it still persists, factory reset the main device. Let me know how it goes.

Performed the steps for a factory reset on the remote - no dice.  Next, and last, step is a factory reset of the Chromecast device itself.

Hello there,

Thanks for the details. Kindly proceed with the factory reset of the Chromecast device itself. Let us know how it goes.

Having same problem. Have tried all kinds of stuff. Newer Sony TV is showing this behaviour, Chromcast works on our old Sony TV.  Chromecast remote will turn on TV, Chromcast shows as turned on the iPhone app, but TB says 'no signal'.

Have factory reset everything multiple times, tried different HDMI ports, etc.

Power cycling the chromecast fixes the issue. And it will work for a few hours or days after, but eventually it goes back to not working.

This started probably 3 or 4 weeks ago. Was there a software update?

Hi kaykaykay,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. You mentioned that it works on your old Sony TV — do you still have that TV to test it with? Our objective is to isolate whether the behavior happens only on this particular TV. If you have another TV to test it with, that would be great. Let me know how it goes.
