Chromecasts does not connect to my google account

Allu

Hello! I have a 3rd gen chromecast that had trouble setting up. The problem came during the connection phase.

I went and bought a brand new chromecast with google tv (4K) and the problems continue. Everything is normal during the set up until I come to the phase where the chromecast tries to connect to my google account. I try to set it up with google home app. The error message is something like "Connection failed. Please try again". After this error I can try again or go back to the start of google home app. There I can see my chromecast in the devices tab but clicking it doesnt do anything.

Things that I have tried to do to fix this:

-Buy a new chromecast. Different gen

-Tried to shut off and/or completely reset my router and chromecast

-Tried 2.4G and 5.0G bands on wifi

-Shut off firewall on the router

-Tried to set up the new chromecast with its remote

-Tried to move away all the cables from the vicinity of my chromecast

-Brought the router right next to chromecast and took it about 7m apart

-Restart my phone and re-installed google home app

-I've reset my google account password

The problem is that since it doesnt connect to my google account, I cant see the chromecast on any device other than my phones google home apps devices tab.

I have no idea what is going on and I am getting very frustrated. I am starting to think the problem is somewhere in my google accounts settings or something.

I would greatly appreciate any attempt to help me. Thank you.

-Aleksi

Hi, @Allu,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand how frustrating it must be that your Chromecasts aren’t connecting to the Google Home app using your Google account. I’m truly sorry that the inconvenience persists despite your troubleshooting efforts. I’m happy to help you find a solution.

To better assist you, please provide the following information:

  • Is your email address associated with an educational institution or workplace?
  • What device is used to complete the setup, and what's the OS version (iOS or Android)?
  • Has the Chromecast been connected to this network before, or is this the first time setting the device up?
  • Do you own more than one streaming device? If yes, do these issues happen to other streaming devices?
  • Where are you located? (Example: apartment, school, hotel, etc.)

Since you've already attempted to resolve Chromecast connection issues by trying different Chromecasts, resetting devices, changing Wi-Fi settings, disabling the firewall, using the remote, moving cables, and resetting your Google account password, I suggest the following:

  • Create a new Google account.
  • Log in to the Google Home app using the new account and create a new home.
  • Add the Chromecasts under the new Google account.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana
