GCCwGTV infrared always on and not controlling TV

p88slv

Hi!

A few weeks back, my GCCwGTV stopped controlling my dumb LG TV after working perfectly fine for over a year. Even after several re-pairs and hard resets.

A few days later it stopped working completely, so I changed the batteries and it went back to working, except for the TV controllers.

It drained the new batteries within a week or so. I figures it was from all the pairings and factory resets I have made so I got new (better quality) batteries, which lasted one more week.

After browsing some forums I pointed my phone camera at it and realized that the IR signal is ALWAYS ON. No flickering when I press the buttons, and it doesn't stop until I remove the batteries. There are no buttons stuck and there was no damage to the remote. What can I do?

I don't want to lose the TV controller functions and definitely don't want to change batteries every week.

Thank you.

Hi p88slv,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your device. The IR signal is always on as it is used for the remote to communicate with the TV or to work for many devices. If the Voice Remote isn't working, please try the additional steps below:

  1. Check for pending remote software updates. Go to Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Remote update > Continue. The remote might briefly disconnect during the software update.
  2. Forget the Chromecast Voice Remote. Have the customer go to  Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Chromecast Remote > Forget.
  3. Pair the remote. Go to  Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Pair remote or accessory, then follow the instructions on the TV.
Note: If applicable, you can also press the button on the Chromecast device for one second to start to pair.
  4. Remove, then replace the batteries again in the Chromecast Voice Remote. Note: Replace all batteries at the same time. Don’t mix old and new batteries. Don’t use lithium-ion or any other batteries with rated voltage above 1.5 V.
  5. If the steps above don't work, perform another factory reset. Refer to [How to] Factory reset the Chromecast and Chromecast Voice Remote.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for your follow-up, it is greatly appreciated!

I did it all, including the factory reset to the chromecast itself and still nothing. The remote continues not to control my LG TV, despite being automatically configured to do so during the initial chromecast set up, after the factory reset.

So now I am at the same position I was initially, after an hour of reconfiguring everything, reseting most of my apps passwords and reinstalling all the apps.

I'll keep the new batteries on, to see if they will still drain after a week.

Is there any other solution?

Alternatively, can I buy a new remote? I live in Portugal, so it's not available in the Google Store here.

And do you think a new remote will solve my problem?

Thank you

Hello p88slv,

I appreciate you trying the suggested steps. Could you tell us if the battery is still draining?

It's not a guaranteed fix but, you can try to purchase a new Voice Remote at the same store where you initially purchased your device. Once you have the new remote, you may test and observe the behavior of the device. You can also check this support website article to set up the buttons on your Voice Remote.

Thanks,

Jennifer
