Google TV stream turns TV back on

farrock02

I've been dealing with an issue since I got my Google TV streamer around it launch date.

After watching TV for a while, I turn the TV off. 10 secs later the TV turns back on. After immediately turning the TV back off , it stays off.

I've changed it from a HDMI port on the back of the TV to the a HDMI port going through my sound bar. Both have the same results.

I move the TV streamer from my main Sony TV(OLED) to a older Samsung (Plasma) and the trouble follows the TV stream .

I plugged my Chromecast with Google TV in the same Sony TV and it doesn't experience the same trouble.

Hi, farrock02,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you're experiencing an issue where your Google TV Streamer is turning your TV back on after you've turned it off. This is likely related to a feature called HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). Let's work together for a solution.

HDMI-CEC allows devices connected via HDMI to control each other. While this can be convenient, it sometimes causes unexpected behavior.

Unfortunately, you can't directly disable CEC from the Google TV Streamer itself. However, you can usually disable it on your TV or receiver. To do this:

  • Check your TV's settings: Look for options related to HDMI-CEC (e.g., Anynet+, Bravia Sync, Simplink).
  • Check your receiver's settings: If you're using an AV receiver, check its manual or settings menu for HDMI-CEC options.

If you're unsure how to disable CEC on your devices, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your TV or receiver for assistance.

I hope this information helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Kevin

If you turn off the TV another way, such as with the remote control it came with, Google TV will turn it back on if the Youtube or Youtube TV app is running.  This is not the correct behavior, and the older chromecast did not have this problem.  The apple TV also does not have this problem.

Kevin,

I am fully aware the HDMI-CEC is the tech that is allowing me to control power, volume etc.. with one remote. How is your "solution" turning HDMI-CEC off ? As I explained this issue is happening on my Sony and Samsung TVs, with the new Google TV streamer. Its not happening on this same 2 TV's when using my old Google Chromecast with Google TV.

Wouldnt that mean something is wrong with how the Google TV streamer is handling HDMI-CEC? Its feels like every time I reach out to Google for support on any of my devices, I get these ridiculous responses. If you are not will to actually troubleshoot the issue, just dont respond.
