So I paired a Nvidia Shield (2019 version) remote to my parent's Chromecast with Google TV.
All of the buttons work great, except for the volume buttons, they do nothing. They do work with the original remote.
Even in the Chromecast settings, it seems the volume control button only pertain to the original remote. I've tried CEC and IR modes. When testing the IR codes, the volume buttons do nothing on the Shield remote.
I've even tried "forgetting" the original remote so only the Shield remote was paired, that didn't help.
It's almost like the Chromecast doesn't even recognize the volume up/down buttons on the Nvidia remote.
Any advice?
EDIT: The Chromecast is connect to a Vizio TV, CEC is enabled on it.

Hi taz291819,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. Based on your description, the Chromecast device and the Chromecast Voice remote are working as intended. The Nvidia Shield remote is not intended to control the Chromecast with Google TV. It may have worked to some extent, but it is not intended to, despite both having Android software. You might get more replies if you post this on their community support page. Let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks,

I'm replying just for future use. "Intended" use or not, the Shield remote will work if you don't need IR functions, AND your display accepts volume control via CEC. This is mostly for people that use the speakers on their TV. If you use a soundbar or AVR, it'll more than likely work due to CEC.

Hi taz291819,
We appreciate your input. It’s awesome to know that it would most likely work. It is also our responsibility to set the expectations of other users that the Chromecast with Google TV is made to work with its own Chromecast Voice remote. There may be other remotes that seem to work (Nvidia Shield, Android TVs, Smart TVs with Google TV interface, etc.), and a lot of YouTube videos by tech vloggers have shared them, but if some functions don’t seem to work, it doesn’t mean something's not right with the Chromecast device, especially if it works perfectly with its own remote.
Nonetheless, what you shared here is good to know. I will keep this thread open for one more day. Feel free to create a new one if you have questions or concerns in the future.
Cheers,
Kimy
