TCL TV and Google TV 4K Remote Issue

The Google TV remote work well for Volume and Power for both streamer and the TCL 55 inch TV.  But when using the input button on the Google remote to switch to other inputs like the TV antenna the Google TV remote brings up the input panel on the TV but the Google remote will not let you move left or right to select which input you want.  When moving left or right it moves the screen "behind" the input section instead.  The input panels stays in the lower left of the TV screen but there is not way to select any of the inputs.  I did the setup twice and the HDMI CEC is selected in setup and as mentioned the volume and power buttons do work with the TV just fine.  I have tried to resolve with TCL Tech support but no fix. I then tried Google TV with a new ONN 4K streaming Pro device.  It does the same thing.  Oddly enough the TCL TV I am using is a Google TV version and the TV remote works fine.

Hi Redbluff,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I am sorry to hear that your Google TV Streamer 4K voice remote input button isn’t working as expected. For example, when you use the input button on the Google remote to switch to other inputs, such as the TV antenna, the Google TV remote displays the input panel on the TV, but you cannot move left or right to select the input you want. When you move left or right, the screen travels "behind" the input section. The input panels remain in the lower left corner of the television screen, but no inputs can be selected.

I appreciate you taking the time to share the troubleshooting you have done to resolve this issue, so I can have a better understanding of the situation. No worries; it is my pleasure to help you resolve the inconvenience with your Google TV Streamer 4K voice remote.

Based on the information you’ve shared, I can recommend you try the following troubleshooting steps:

Set up input control on your Chromecast or Google TV Streamer Voice Remote.

  1. Turn on Google TV Streamer, then go to the top right of the TV screen.
  2. Select your profile, then go to “Settings.”
    • Select the option “Remotes and Accessories," then select “Set up remote buttons." You’ll now be on the remote button setup screen.
    • If you haven’t added a device yet, you’ll need to add one to continue. Select “Add a device." In this case, your TCL 55-inch TV.

 3.  From the remote control setup screen, select the option “Input.”

  • On your remote, press the Input button, then switch through all your TV inputs.
    • If the input button works, be sure to switch back to the HDMI port your streaming device is connected to.
  • In the section “Did the input button work?” Select Yes or No and try again.

If the previous steps didn’t resolve the inconvenience, it will be necessary to factory reset your Google TV Streamer Voice Remote. Here are the instructions to do it:

  1. Press and hold the Mute and Center (Select) buttons at the same time.
  • While both buttons are pressed down, the remote LED will blink white.
  • A countdown sound will play after 10 seconds of holding.
  1.   Keep holding the buttons until the LED turns solid white.

Note: It usually takes no more than 12 seconds to initiate a factory reset.

After performing the factory reset to your Google TV Streamer Voice Remote, it will be necessary to set up the buttons again.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
