Turn Google Tv with chromecast oj

We have a new Chromecast which is set to turn itself off after 30 min of inactivity but we can't work out how to turn it back on. The power button on the remote only turns our TV on and off. We're probably missing something simple but can't find anywhere guidance on how to do it. We're resorting to unplugging to restart it.
