Turn off Chromecast when TV is off

Hello,

Huge Android advocate here but, like everything, there can be some improvements for the customer/user.  Specifically, your ChromeCast w/ Google TV (HD and 4K) running Android 13 (?) have an issue I find very annoying.  They stay on constantly.  I'm sure most users would agree (if they knew), that they don't want their chromecasts to stay on allllllllll the time even when the TV is off.  There is no value for the end user, and the fact that you (google) see value in it probably would be of concern to most users who care about their privacy (i.e., "why, do you want the chromecast and its remote with a microphone on all the time?").

I have two of these devices and one is on a newer samsung and the other on an older one. n the newer tv, I plug the chromecast into the USB port on the tv and this accomplishes the turning the device off when the tv is off just fine.  However, on the older TV the chromecase refuses to run off the USB port ont he TV and demands that it be plugged into the wall socket.  This results in the chromecase staying on all the time.  The ONLY difference between the older TV and the newer one's USB ports are that the newer one is newer USB (possible usb 3 or 3.1) technology, whereas the older TV's port in s "dumb" USB 2 or older type port.  The voltages supplied are exactly the same.  So from a technical standpoint, there is no reason to refuse to run the chromecase off the older TV's USB power.

So, please, make a change to the firmware to allow the chromecast to run off the USB port on any tv.  Short of that, make the chromecast go into a sllep mode that initiates a fresh boot when the TV comes on.

It'll be interesting to see if this actually is listened to or dismissed.

Older TVs USB ports are not all able to transmit the power requires for a Chromecast to function properly.  Also, the Chromecast always being on is a great feature for many, as it allows us to cast to our TV , which turns the TV on without the remote.  If you truly don't want the Chromecast on, and want a workaround, why not plug it into a smart plug, this way you can have it powered off if you so choose?
