Why the voice remote has an accelerometer?

I just don't get it. Are there any apps/games that use this feature? Not even the introduction mentioned it.

It does seem a bit odd at first as to why a TV remote would need an accelerometer. The reason the Chromecast Voice Remote exists is to allow some extra functionality for games on the Chromecast with Google TV. For example, if you moved the remote at a certain speed, it would register in the game. Now, I can't say I'm aware of any specific examples currently, but that would be the intention.
