Really want the answer to this question as well. There can't be any
problem to make Nest Protect, Matter compatible with a software update.
Thread (wireless protocol) is hardware so that is obviously out of the
question.
I'm having exactly the same issue today with low battery warning and one
battery being so hot you couldn't touch it . I'm going toi change
batteries but they only lasted 2 months. That can't be normal.
