I followed sconniesquatch's (amongst others) steps below and it worked eventually. Google may have rectified and updated the Google Home app since. This was over a month ago.- Go to Settings -> Apps- Uninstall updates for Google app- Uninstall update...

Seems to be back to normal for me. I'll let other users respond on their experience. Thanks again.

Oi, sorry mate. Restarting the phone after uninstalling the 2 updates should work... 

I'm not sure if your can uninstall GP Services?! So you have tried uninstalling the update by clicking on the 3 dots on top right corner? That worked for all, if not most, people on here. Good luck!
