Why does the white noise randomly stop on my Google Nest Hub (gen2)?

I have another Nest Hub and when I ask it to play white noise it will play uninterrupted all day. I just bought this new one and it randomly stops. Sometimes 10 minutes after it starts. Other times hours later. Is the device defective?
