Mechanical Doorbell does not ring

Nest Doorbell wired does not ring with mechanical doorbell. I have a 16V 10VA transformer. If I remove the white chime connector (hockey puck) that is supposed to be installed in the mechanical doorbell box, the doorbell chime works. If I install it ...
