Do I need to register my Nest Protect for warranty purposes or does it do that automatically when I scan the QR code during setup in the app?

Did the blackplate crack or did the screws just go through the plastic? would you be able to use 2 small washers between the plastic? Basically sandwich the plastic part with the 2 washers, put the screw through and attach to the electrical box.

The Nest Protect only needs to have supplied wire connected to the black and white wire inside the electrical box.
